Summary: I'm not a photography wiz, but wanted something a step above the point and shoot category. I have been more than impressed by this camera. The auto setting does an excellent job of selecting the right options for a scene and photos come out noticeably better than a standard point and shoot. I'll defer to all the other positive reviews from those more skilled in photography to speak to it's more advanced features.
Summary: Even for an early model, the J1 is an outstanding camera with deal quality. Very affordable and can easily change lens for any shooting mode. Its just extremely hard to wrong with the Nikon 1 series cameras.
This camera has fun features that put it ahead of the DSLR pack

Summary: Nikons venture into smaller sensor, mirrorless interchangable lens cameras (MILs?) Note: I got my body used, which I fully suggest anyone should do unless that option isnt available. I've never had a single issue with used or refurbished units, so feel free to buy away. This camera has fun features that put it ahead of the DSLR pack: -High speed video (400fps, 1200fps - this is at a lower resolution, no sound however) -Small size -No shutter or mirror slap/vibration...
If you are looking for a single button point and shoot this one is a real bargain after the recent price reductions.

Summary: I was looking for a simple point and shoot as a present. I knew the person doesn't care about features and just want's something where you can press the button and get great picture. This is it. It's not a miracle camera, my old D80 has comparable if not better picture quality if used with the right lenses, but it's three times the size and four times the cost.
