Nikon Df review by ms0816

ms0816, slrgear.com
25 February 2015
  • Summary: I loved this camera's look and feel as I am a big fan of the Fuji X-T1 and X100s. Having a full frame in this body size and format is quite endearing. But having said that, the body isn't as small as the Fuji's and once a Nikkor 24-70 goes on this body, it no longer feels like a walk-around camera.
  • Pros: Awesome viewfinder and retro feel in a slightly smaller body
  • Cons: ISO dials are hard to turn, max sync speed only 1/200.

Great camera

  • Summary: I really like this camera, but it is definitely for a bit of a niche audience and there are definitely some things that Nikon really could have done better. First what Nikon did right: The sensor is simply incredible.

A little quirky but very flexible, very dependable, and captures great images.

  • Summary: Have both the silver and black models (along with other Nikon full-frame cameras). As a long-time Nikon photographer, I find that Df is growing on me more and more. I love the variety of lens I can use on the camera and there is not a big image-quality penalty for using (high quality) older lenses.

  • Excerpt: It is a camera with easy access to ISO and speed, it is used very easily in manual mode, do not have to enter the menu, it is done with external controls. You can use old lenses, has very good definition in low light and is a very stylish camera.
  • Pros: Easy To Use, Good Image Quality, High ISO Performance, Quiet, Simple Use
  • Cons: Only 16 Mp, Price

  • Summary: Wow.....my first full frame and wow...the low light handling on this thing is amazing. The smaller body makes it more portable that the other full frames I looked at. Like the retro styling too.

Shotcents, DP Review

  • Excerpt: Now that most of the noise has died down and the Df has found a stabile audience, perhaps it's time to re-evaluate the Df as it now faces competition from newer models. IQ - This camera has the best IQ over the widest possible ISO range of ANY Nikon DSLR made and achieves this in a small and quiet...

Nikon did it right again!

Ron B., B&H Photo
28 December 2014
  • Excerpt: I've owned a D800 since their introduction and have absolutely no regrets for having purchased it. It's an incredible camera. That being said, it's heavy, especially with my 28-300, 17-35 F2.8 or 28-70 F2.8 lenses mounted on the camera.
  • Pros: Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality, High ISO Performance, Large Clear LCD, Quiet
