Summary: Am very happy with this bod! My current bread-and-butter body. 36.3 megapixel does help esp. for shoot-to-crop jobs. But for those buying now... I'd suggest getting the D810 even with only 24 MP CMOS.
Make sure you gey a USA version and not gray market
5 September 2014
Summary: The Majority of Nikon D800 series cameras sold here on Ebay are gray market cameras. the Cameras cannot be updated with firmware and Nikon has stopped supplying parts to gray market dealers to make repaires. The D800 -800E is an awesome camera if you want full use of the camera including the updates and issues to be resolved when they arise you need to pay the 3200 for the USA Version. On the origional box there will be the letter “U” after the 800 above the skew number.
Summary: I love this camera, Resolution and DR are nice to have. Unfortunately I decided to sell it because it is just too big to use a walk around camera. I purchased a 6D instead and I am very satisfied with that.
Excerpt: I've been using the D800E for landscapes, portraits, and street photography. Superb in all aspects, especially sharpness, resolution, and low light shooting. A bit lagging in ergonomics. But new firmware is great improvement, allowing ISO to be remapped to Record button. Still, having just purchased the camera, I wish I'd known about the D810 release. Would have waited.
Excerpt: Covered the first wedding with my D800E this weekend and it was the perfect tool-- efficient and ergonomically designed. The results were fantastic when combined with my 24-70 mm f2.8 and downloaded into my Mac Pro. Hardly used my SB910.
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality, High ISO Performance, Large Clear LCD, Quiet
Excerpt: I'm mainly a landscape photographer, although I do portrait and other types of photography. The D800e, esepcially with great glass on it (like a Sigma 35mm F1.4) is capable of unbelievable resolution and detail. I find myself cropping a 10% area of the full RAW file and still having fantastic image quality. It is a beautiful camera to hold - solid, artful and precision engineered.
Pros: Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality
Cons: Lack Of User State Recall, Mediocre Screen Colour, Won't Work With M3
Excerpt: I just purchased my 4th Nikon D800E (not all from B&H) because the images from this camera are that outstanding. I use all 4 cameras, because I prefer to keep one lens permanently attached to a body. I shoot fashion and beauty, in the studio and on-location. A year ago I was shooting with 2 Nikon D4's. I was on the fence about whether to get the D800E because of the file size. The first time I tried it, I knew I would be selling my D4's.
Pros: Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality, Large Clear LCD
Excerpt: I primarily use my 800E for landscape photography, and the image captures that I have been getting far exceed what I was ever able to record with several medium format film cameras that I have used. In comparison with my 4 X 5 view camera, it is actually a pretty close call. The 800E is simply an astonishing machine that I have been extremely pleased with. To date, after exposing thousands of images, I have yet to be disappointed or encounter any problems.
Pros: Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, Large Clear LCD
Excerpt: As a semi pro, I found that this is my very best camera ever. It is heavy, for sure in the near future we will walking around with a mirroless camera (I have a Fuji x100s also the best) but still we will be using a lot cameras as good as the noon D800e is for landscapes an special activities, when you have time and not to worry about how heavy your gear is.
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality
