Before the Nikon D80 was released, it was one of the most hyped and awaited 10 megapixel cameras. Needless to say, so far it hasn’t been that disappointing. Notable attractions on the Nikon D80 are excellent color rendition and noise levels, a large feature set, highly customizable and lightning-fast performance. Other features included are a large, bright and clear optical viewfinder, and excellent image quality with low noise up to ISO 800. With all those included in the Nikon D80, the result is an excellent performance. From its body and size, a certain user commented on how the handling is superb with a large and deep handgrip, with enough space for all your fingers to hold on to. Its controls are precise and intuitive. Another discovery is that its batteries don’t hold on for a long time. The Nikon D80 has somehow managed to impress many people as the photographers feel that the Nikon D80 should be a great camera as only professionals use it. What makes the Nikon D80 more attractive is that it works real fast unlike some other cameras. Though the Nikon D80 is in direct competition with other brands, it has still managed to hold a place among photographers. In some ways, Nikon has proven that it’s still ahead. The high quality of the Nikon D80 comes with a high price too. Due to the fact that it’s a high-end model where high performance and sharp images are expected and most importantly it’s aimed at professional photographers who can afford to buy it. A particular user likes this camera as it has tons of options, and really makes you feel good about photography. All these features available on the Nikon D80, from its attractive 10.2 megapixels to its amazingly fast power of taking pictures, Nikon in many ways does not disappoint.

  1. Camera Test: Nikon D80

With the major camera makers drawing up battle lines in the 10MP DSLR war, Nikon just marched onto the field with a small but potent new weapon. As we noted in the October 2006 issue, the D80 ($1,000 street, body only; $1,300 with the 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G kit lens) represents a major upgrade from Nikon's aging consumer DSLR, the D70s: a jump to 10.2MP from 6.1MP, plus equivalent boosts in processing speed, burst rate, AF performance, and in-camera image controls. Much of my photography involves walking the streets of Los Angeles, looking at light, shapes and people, and searching for that special combination of just the right elements that make a memorable photograph. Carrying a huge pro-end D-SLR isn't necessary, though it may do wonders for my ego. Instead, a smaller camera with key features like those found in the new Nikon D80 often provides just the tools I need. Read more

Any photographer looking for a semi-affordable dSLR and wants absolutely professional results, the Nikon D80 is one of the better cameras for the job. The Nikon D80 is my second dSLR and I’ve only been doing photography for about six months now. I must say that I like it far better than the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT/350D. This camera obviously cost a few hundred dollars more for the starter kit, but the lens is amazing quality for the price, not to mention the Nikon... Read more

No matter how you look at it, the Nikon D80 is a feature-packed camera – and not just packed with features for the sake of it, but packed with useful features. Despite the changes in the controls, the camera is still very intuitive to use with quality to match. As far as the use of SD cards issue goes, I think Nikon’s decision to go for this format is the right one, since SD is now more common than CompactFlash, and a little cheaper too. The only real drawback is... Read more

"Eventhough it is missing some of the most recent features of newer dslr's, there really isn't anything missing that you will care about. it also has features that allot of newer cameras don't to offset the difference. If you just want a great camera that takes great pictures ....just get it you won't regret it.Even straight out of the box at default settings it takes great pictures and the different shooting banks for your own favorite tweaks are really nice.....unless... This is a GREAT camera with all the f- stops, shutter speeds, RAW imaging for the more serious photographer or those wanting to grow as photographer. The "in camera" editing is a quick way to have the same image changed several times without losing the original before loading them on the computer. I have used my D80 every week in the past year. I have 3 lens that serve most of my interests. The one most used is a "walk around" tamron 18-270 VC. The preset controls of... Read more
