Summary: First time Nikon and dslr user here, and I must say that I'm loving this camera! I'm a huge fan of all the still and video options it gives meaning that even all the preset auto functions deliver outstanding pictures in almost every imaginable scenario. I'm more a fan of manual controls as I'm more familiar with using them on hd camcorders but it's nice to know that if I just want to pop off a few shots without any fuss, I can easily do so.
Summary: This is my first digital SLR. I began using film SLRs back in 1965, but quit photography for a while when the last one broke down in the 1980s. I've been through a variety of small digital cameras starting in 2000, the last being a 4-megapixel Nikon Coolpix 4500 purchased in 2003 (for $529.95). I've taken at least 6,000 photos with the CP 4500 -- mostly macros of insects and spiders, since it can focus down to 0.7 inches, but also lots of bird shots.
Very Happy, but Nikon should re-visit the grip design

Summary: After several years with the Nikon D-50 I upgraded to D5200. Love it! Honestly, there is only one thing I dislike: From a perspective of ergonomics, I strongly prefer the design and the way the right-hand grip and controls work on the D50 to those on the newer D5200. I brought my D50 to a store, compared both, and my wife and I were both surprised the newer model just isn't as comfortable as the earlier model.
Summary: I love this camera. I upgraded from D5100. The red color is 1000% fantastic! It is so beautiful. The camera takes great pictures and I know I will be using it for a long time. I recommend this camera to anyone who likes to take photos.
