Summary: I wanted better quality pictures and I think this product will do it for me. If I can learn how too make all the adjustments necessary. It's my first slr camera and its great to know that I have all of these choices.
Excerpt: I bought this camera a few months ago as my first DSLR (I have used film SLRs in the past). All in all it is a fantastic camera and I love to use it, but there are some annoying things about it , wich would make me choose a second hand D7000 over the D5100 the next time. First of all the flip-screen is only interesting for a month. After a month I used it less then 1% of the time. The 4 way controller on the back can be pushed by accident moving the focus point.
Excerpt: I love this camera! I have used regular digital cameras for years and was wanting a digital SLR to expand my options in photography. I had read reviews about different cameras and set my sights on this one and I haven't regretted it since.
I use this camera for personal use and have shot some pretty good pictures with it. I love the 'select a color' filter, as well as the many different filters.
It's fairly easy to use.
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, Large Clear LCD, Tilt /Swivel LCD
Summary: Was torn between this and the D3200 for a while. Finally decided on this D5100, and I think I made the right choice, as far as entry level DSLR's go. Takes amazing photos with kit lens, even better one when paired with an FX lens like the 50mm 1.8g I just bought for it. Also, very easy to use in manual mode. Highly recommend.
Summary: I have been using a P510 and this was my first DSLR. I learned a lot on the P510 including shooting in Shutter and Aperture priority but found that cameras limitations and decided it was time.
Excerpt: I shot about 4000 pictures so far and I couldn't be happier about the product. This is the best entry level DSLR on the market at the moment. Hands down. If you are going to be purchasing this camera, I recommend 2 things. Pick up a plastic screen protector(you can get one for under $5) because your face is going to leave smudges on the screen when you shoot. And also pick up an extra battery if you are going to be shooting for long periods of time like me.
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, High ISO Performance, Large Clear LCD, Quiet, Tilt /Swivel LCD
Excerpt: The camera itself works great and I am really happy that I chose the D5100. Only problem that I'm very upset about is that the charger does not charge the battery. I have had it plugged in over night and longer and the light on the charger continues to show a constant flickering. AND does not charge the battery. This is so inconvenient for me because I am overseas for the next 4 months! The cheapest NEW charger I've found is $50.
