Summary: Please check for type of lense before placing an order. Accidentaly, I bought a Nikon D5100 with AF-S lenses instead of VR ... I realised only when I unpacked it & took few telephoto shot using 55-200 mm lense. The photos are little blur unless one learns to control the hand vibration ... 18-55 mm lense really gave great shots.
Summary: Programing different options is hard due to the many layers of menus and the manual is not thorough. I bought this camera because the autofocus quit working on my first Nikon D5100. Now I have a backup while my other one gets repaired. I recommend buying an extended warranty.
Summary: We tried this camera for a couple of days. It is a little better design than the basic dslr from Nikon. If this is the only slr you owned it would be a great camera set-up. It is still hard to beat the old film cameras. We own two or three smaller point and shoot digital cameras, and at 8x10 size photos it was hard to tell any difference in the picture quality of those P&S cameras and this dslr.
Summary: I have no complaints on this camera at all. Takes great pictures! Can be as easy as you want or you can take total control of all settings. Scene modes are useful for different situations you encounter. The effects modes work well too. I have already taken better pictures than I ever have in my life.
