Review Summary

The Nixon D40x is one of the best DSLRs available today. It is known to be the upgraded or follow-up version of its previous model Nixon D40. The Nixon D40x is one of the best DSLRs available today. It is known to be the upgraded or follow-up version of its previous model Nixon D40. Considered one of the best according to some of its users is because it has a very comfortable and compact body design which is at the same time versatile, not noisy at higher ISOs, highly customizable menus and not to miss its 10.2-megapixel CCD sensor which gives a boost to its resolution to which in turn hasn’t at all affected the overall image quality. A certain user described it as the D40 with 4.1 more mega pixels on the same size sensor and the ability to use ISO 100, rather than the ISO 200 lower limit on the D40. Known as a fact indeed is that the pictures taken with the Nikon D40x are great pictures. A certain user quoted that the Nikon D40x illustrates very clearly both the marketing and monetary value of a 10 mega pixel model over an otherwise identical 6 mega pixel version. As far as modes are concerned, it works great on the auto mode and the manual mode too is easy to set but might not be that easy to take perfect shots. A certain disadvantage or weakness in this camera which has been noted by one of its reviewers is that the flash-synch is not as good as its previous model the Nikon D40. Also, you will have to purchase its Capture NX software if you are planning on processing your RAW images. The Nikon D40x is a guaranteed customer satisfaction. In other words, it has something for everyone to like. The Nikon D40x is also advisable for photographers who want a camera that will last for quite some time. This camera is also referred as an easy camera to run.

  2. Nikon D40x makes the D40 seem totally out of date

It's true, it's only been a few short months since Nikon officially rolled out the D40 , but they're already launching another budget digital SLR, the D40x. The two cameras are basically the same, with the one major difference being that the D40x ups the megapixels to 10.2. Probably not enough of a change to make anyone who just bought a D40 suffer from a massive case of buyer's remorse (well, maybe it is), but the D40x is shaping up to be a nice option for anyone who... Nikon has refreshed their ever popular D40 model from last year, with the new D40x. New improvements over the D40 include a 10-megapixel image sensor (6-megapixels on the D40), increased continuous capture rate (3fps over 2.5fps), and a slightly more versatile sensitivity range from ISO 100 - 1600 (compared to 200 - 1600). This new model occupies Nikon's "entry-level" dSLR position, and comes as a body or body and lens kit. Nikon left many options alone, like the... Read more

I got the Nikon d40x after going through a canon digital rebel that was no good at all, and an earlier nikon "pretend" dslr about 4 years earlier when they first started coming out in digital. This camera has no faults and I can say that very honestly. Beautiful color, focusing, saturation, flash, everything. I've won photo contests with it, competing against guys with their canon markII's, as well as shot weddings professionally. It does it all, even just on auto if you... Read more

I have no complaint with this camera I have used for almost two years now as a vacation/hiking camera. I shoot at a daily paper so I'm used to using pro gear and this body is a tad small, but I got it for it's light weight. I must comment on this insane 900.00 price. I picked one up, body only, at this same website for less than $500 almost two years ago. Stay away from this price. It is a huge rip. Shop elsewhere for the d40x. This is not a $900 camera. This is a... Read more

I canceled the order of Nikon D40X/18-55mm since it doesn't have vibration protection (VR) function neither in body nor lenz. I heard that most Nikon DSRL camera doesn't have vibration protection in body but in lenz. In this kit, the lenz doesn't have a function of it, but Nikon D60/18-55mm kit has!! The lenz in this kit is VR available. Also, D40x is not going to be produced any more. D60 was just produced in Feb. 2008. I'm strongly recommending D60 kit instead of... Read more
