The Nixon D40x is one of the best DSLRs available today. It is known to be the upgraded or follow-up version of its previous model Nixon D40. Considered one of the best according to some of its users is because it has a very comfortable and compact body design which is at the same time versatile, not noisy at higher ISOs, highly customizable menus and not to miss its 10.2-megapixel CCD sensor which gives a boost to its resolution to which in turn hasn’t at all affected the overall image quality. A certain user described it as the D40 with 4.1 more mega pixels on the same size sensor and the ability to use ISO 100, rather than the ISO 200 lower limit on the D40. Known as a fact indeed is that the pictures taken with the Nikon D40x are great pictures. A certain user quoted that the Nikon D40x illustrates very clearly both the marketing and monetary value of a 10 mega pixel model over an otherwise identical 6 mega pixel version. As far as modes are concerned, it works great on the auto mode and the manual mode too is easy to set but might not be that easy to take perfect shots. A certain disadvantage or weakness in this camera which has been noted by one of its reviewers is that the flash-synch is not as good as its previous model the Nikon D40. Also, you will have to purchase its Capture NX software if you are planning on processing your RAW images. The Nikon D40x is a guaranteed customer satisfaction. In other words, it has something for everyone to like. The Nikon D40x is also advisable for photographers who want a camera that will last for quite some time. This camera is also referred as an easy camera to run.

Nikon has refreshed their ever popular D40 model from last year, with the new D40x. New improvements over the D40 include a 10-megapixel image sensor (6-megapixels on the D40), increased continuous capture rate (3fps over 2.5fps), and a slightly more versatile sensitivity range from ISO 100 - 1600 (compared to 200 - 1600). This new model occupies Nikon's "entry-level" dSLR position, and comes as a body or body and lens kit. Nikon left many options alone, like the 2.... Read more

The only external difference between the Nikon D40x and the still current D40 is its badge. Maintaining the design of its predecessor, the D40x simply swaps the 6.1 megapixel CCD of the D40 for the currently expected 10 megapixel CCD. Read more
I use this camera for my work - I am the editor of a small weekly newspaper in Montana- and I love it! I also use it to take hundreds of pictures of my new baby, and for taking professional photos of seniors and weddings. I love it because it is so simple to use, and produces very high quaility photos. It also has great attachments - like a telephoto lens, that are easy to attach and use. I have used my camera in a variety of settings - indoor basketball games, outdoo... Read more

For this price the Nikon D40x is an excellent digital camera. The Nikon D40x is a great choice if you do not have old auto focus lenses. The weakness about this camera is the flash-synch, this is not as good as the Nikon D40. Read more
I am ready to upgrade to DSLR I have been using a pentax PZ10 with a 35-200 zoom for years I use the camera mostly for travel and indoor photos. So I like the Nikon D40x but I have seen so many different options for sale my idea is to get a kit with the 18-55 lens for now and upgrade to a longer lens later. I just recently got a Nikon D40x, and I was looking at some Lowepro bags. The Apex 140 AW caught my eye. Is this bag big enough to fit a Nikon D40x, 55-200mm lens, lens hood, cables, SD Cards, batteries, etc...? Or should I get a bigger one, and if so which one?

The HSM lens will work on a Nikon D40x body. At the f4 end, auto-focus will be OK, but (as noted above) at f6.3 it will be not so OK.

So I've decided I would like an external flash for my Nikon D40X. I have been considering the Nikon SB-600 flash but have also checked out the SB-800. I realize that I don’t know enough about them to know which one to get if either of them at all. Am I better off to get the Nikon flash, if so the 600 or 800, or is there...
