When the Nikon D3 was announced in August 2007 it did not carry an... Read more
You've read it here before: Megapixels aren't everything. Now that the 24.5MP Nikon D3X ($8,000, street, body only) has become the third full-frame DSLR to break the 20MP barrier, how well does that simple truth hold up? Read more

As expected, I've received a tremendous amount of feedback on this review, both positive and negative. Reviewing the Nikon D3x is a difficult task, as the camera is designed with a very specific type of user in mind. With a body that costs $8000 paired with a $2000 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, this camera is a substantial investment, a business expense rather than a personal purchase. In terms of image quality performance, the D3x did well, but scored slightly lower overall than the far less expensive Nikon D700. Where the D3x shines is in the breadth and depth of its control and... Read more
In a nut shell D3x has the great 24megapixel. That's it! It's slower than the D3($4300) the ISO range is really suited for slower photography since it's geared toward the low ISO 50, and cuts off at 6400 instead of the ISO 25600 of D3 and D700, it's also way-way too costly at $8000 tag! Even Canon EOS 1Ds Mrk III has come down to $6500 with similar features, but the Canon is how many years old??? Nikon could/should have introduced something with stellar functionality at... Read more
This is an amazing camera and, in my opinion, the best all-around pro studio & location camera. The 24+megapixel resolution, top-rated sensor with extremely wide dynamic range and full-featured DSLR body make this a must-have. Price is too high and kept me from buying it for a while but bench tests show it ahead of its Canon counterpart (although it is 3 times the cost of the Canon). If you're a Nikon fan and have a need for this camera you won't be disappointed; if... Read more
I migrated from film to the D100, D200, D300, and D700 to the D3x. It was not until the D300 that these Nikon cameras REALLY helped my photos and the D700 (FX sensor) was an incredible step forward. I purchased a D3x (ouch!) because I am a macro and landscape photographer and could not resist seeing if the D3x would also be a step forward for me. The good news is that the D3x is really incredible if you are a close-up/macro photographer or like landscapes or... Read more
I've had Nikon Cameras for quite some time and this is not a novice camera. The spec's tell the story. I had mine up in Alaska on a Pop foto Trip and it worked wonderfuly. I did loose a pixel, turned into a red hot spot, 1 in 24mega pixels. Inconvient yes but easy to work around. Nikon repaied and returned quite quickly. The heart of the Nikon System is I can use a lens built 50 plus years ago, Other camera makers change there mount as time march's on. Most of the Nikon... Read more or see product
