Excerpt: I purchased this as an entry level DSLR after using many point and shoots over the year. This camera is perfect for my needs. It is quick, easy to use, and the interface (buttons and menu) is super intuitive. Its just a matter of learning the button placement. Takes GREAT pics with the kit 18-55mm lense. It's lightweight and really fun to shoot with. A couple negatives...its plastic-y. The body is super cheap feeling (however the red color makes it look like a Cadillac).
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, High ISO Performance
Excerpt: Picture quality very good, especially low light performance with 35mm f1.8 prime (separate).

Some minor complaints:
- Wish the LCD was sharper (but I knew when I purchased)
- Wish the screen wouldn't turn on automatically all the time when adjusting settings (Yes, I already disabled it in the menu, but that only affects some of the settings)
Excerpt: After a lot of research and a limited budget I found the D311 refurbished camera to be the best choice.

Delivery was so rapid that it came a couple of days after the order was placed. Sadly, i was not at home so i had to wait until Monday.
The wait was worth it.

The Nikon 3100 is a good choice for my business newsletter and website which uses a fair number of local photos.
Pros: Easy To Use, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, Guide
Excerpt: I got this camera a week ago and have been settling into using it. This is a good value for the money. The camera came in a labeled refurbished box with all software and accessories. The lens was in perfect condition. The camera body was in good condition. There was some wear on the rear lcd screen. The firmware was on the latest version. The card reader door is a bit noisy and clacks. I do not know if this is due to wear or fit and finish. It is not a huge detractor.
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Good Image Quality
Excerpt: If you're concerned about buying Nikon refurbished, I say you should take the chance. The camera I received could have been new, except for the packaging.

I spent an hour with the D3100 and the kit lens, and was a little underwhelmed with the ISO performance. I was also frustrated with the lack of a top LCD and front control dial.

Using this camera with a 35mm 1.8g lens was enjoyable, but I'd already decided it wasn't the camera for me.
Summary: We have only had this camera for a few weeks but it is exactly what we were looking for. Have yet to learn what most of the settings are for but the pictures are stunning. I like being able to zoom in on a shot and see if this is the picture you want right on the camera.
