• Excerpt: This is a backup to my D300. So afar it is a very good and easy to use camera. I will know more after my trip to Colorado in July. So far I have found nothing that is not very good.
 • Pros: Easy To Use, Good Image Quality, Large Clear LCD, Lightweight, Quiet, Refurbished I Recommend

Great Beginner Camera

Adorama
4 June 2013
 • Excerpt: I got this camera a week ago and have been settling into using it. This is a good value for the money. The camera came in a labeled refurbished box with all software and accessories. The lens was in perfect condition. The camera body was in good condition. There was some wear on the rear lcd screen. The firmware was on the latest version. The card reader door is a bit noisy and clacks. I do not know if this is due to wear or fit and finish. It is not a huge detractor.
 • Pros: Easy To Use, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Good Image Quality

Great camera

Adorama
28 May 2013
 • Excerpt: If you're concerned about buying Nikon refurbished, I say you should take the chance. The camera I received could have been new, except for the packaging.

I spent an hour with the D3100 and the kit lens, and was a little underwhelmed with the ISO performance. I was also frustrated with the lack of a top LCD and front control dial.

Using this camera with a 35mm 1.8g lens was enjoyable, but I'd already decided it wasn't the camera for me.

 • Summary: We have only had this camera for a few weeks but it is exactly what we were looking for. Have yet to learn what most of the settings are for but the pictures are stunning. I like being able to zoom in on a shot and see if this is the picture you want right on the camera.

Refurb didn't work out, but used did

New to DSLR, Adorama
21 May 2013
 • Excerpt: I purchased a refurbished unit, took two pictures of my dog to "test" it, and then got an error that the shutter wasn't functioning. After talking to a very helpful representative from Adorama, they suggested I get a used unit instead, which I did, and I haven't had any issues with it. The staff was incredibly helpful, and the return process went very smoothly.
 • Pros: Easy To Use, Good Image Quality
 • Cons: Refurb Broke After 2 Pics

Decent machine

Adorama
21 May 2013
 • Excerpt: My first DSLR, and worth the wait. Very good image quality, mostly a practical trade-off of good qualities between it and film. Program exposure defaults higher than necessary, causing blown-out highlights; I set at least -1 stop for most situations. Only disappointment is the 18-55 VR. Fine details are soft, even at modest print or screen sizes.
 • Pros: Easy To Use, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Good Image Quality, Lite weight, Quiet
 • Cons: Kit Lens Only So-so

 • Summary: The bag strap broke the first time putting the camera in the case. The camera is very nice, and seems to work well, still getting used to it.

 • Excerpt: I am a professional wedding photographer and one's a while clients ask me for camera recommendation under $500. I recommended clients this Nikon D3100 and when it arrived I test it out, and have to say I'm pretty impressed with quality of image at this price. Very nice!
