Does a sufficient job

Mr. M. Kostyrka, Amazon

  • Summary: I've been a pro photographer for very many years (over 40) and very much love digital cameras which perform far better than the old 35mm film cameras. I've owned a few Nikon digital cameras; D50, D80, D300S, D5100 and currently a D3100. I've used generally a 35mm prime, 18-200 VR and currently a 16-85VR and have not used the bundled kit lens that comes with the 3100.

A cracker

  • Summary: Bought for my mid-school-age daughter who is a keen photographer and needed to move on to the creative flexibility of a dslr. Fabulous quality images, easy to understand controls, lightweight. It has the flexibility to take her from using the guide and scene modes, through to full manual control as her knowledge grows.
  • Pros: Durable, Great Features, Great Picture Quality, Lightweight, Simple Controls

  • Summary: I bought this as a stop gap while waiting for Nikon to deliver my D800. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of pictures it produces and how nice it is to use. I think it will definitely stay in my bag as my go anywhere camera.Sadly I bought it a week before Nikon introduced the D3200!!

  • Summary: I absolutely love this camera and have had so much fun getting to grips with it, exploring depth of field, long exposures with light and post processing my RAW images with lightroom and photoshop.. Fantastic!
  • Pros: The Picture quality available at an entry level dslr is fantastic and has helped me affordably move away from digital cameras and phone cameras.
  • Cons: No bracketing feature, or external mic input and accessories are expensive.

Good for the money but the newer D3200 is better so compare prices

Gary Parker, Amazon
5 September 2011
  • Summary: This is a very good camera and is being offered at some impressively low prices. The picture quality is far better than compact cameras, so if you're moving up from a snapshot camera you will be seriously impressed. However, the newer D3200 has even better picture quality. The D3100's 14 megapixel sensor is good, but the D3200's 24 megapixel sensor is amazing.

  • Summary: Nikon D3100 is my first DSLR. I purchased it in feb 11 and had taken more than 2000 pics with it. Its a great camera with very good picture quality. picture quality at higher ISO is good and can actually be utilised. if u are not a pro and dont need some specific fun as i mentioned in cons, this is a perfect DSLR for anyone who need it for personal use.
