Conclusion: A beginner thinks about the rate and performance and the ease in operation. This camera got a mode where learning is possible. The clarity of the picture is good. High ISO enables to pictures in low light. The built in flash is okay for a non-professional.One facility which is very much desired and could have made the camera as one of very good is built in motor for auto focus like a D90. The kit lense is great...at its price range.

Conclusion: This Nikon beauty is one of the best SLR cameras you can get in the market. 14.2 megapixels, HD recording and compact and easy to carry. It is also compatible with several lenses. A great choice for your entry in the SLR world, this will complete all your requirements.
Excerpt: OVERVIEW In my opinion, a very good beginners DSLR camera which comes with many features. With 14.2 megapixels, a high quality output can be achieved. Although this camera provides all the features expected of a DSLR camera, it is fairly light for its size which means that it is not heavy to carry around if you are out walking for the day.
Pros: High Resolution, Guide Mode, Range of different camera modes, Ability to edit images in camera
Summary: I've been a pro photographer for very many years (over 40) and very much love digital cameras which perform far better than the old 35mm film cameras. I've owned a few Nikon digital cameras; D50, D80, D300S, D5100 and currently a D3100. I've used generally a 35mm prime, 18-200 VR and currently a 16-85VR and have not used the bundled kit lens that comes with the 3100.
Summary: This Nikon is more than a beginners camera. Apart from clear shots it produces the HD movie is great. You can either point and shoot or be creative with the settings, either way you wont be disappointed.
Excerpt: Nikon D3100 SLR digital camera ~~Basics~~ We have owned this camera for about 1 year and have been more than happy with the ease of use, picture quality and general durability. The camera came with a rechargeable battery pack and holds its charge for 4 to 5 hours of constant use. The USB, HDMI and AV connecters are easily accessible on the body and are protected by a rubber flap. The Nikon D3100 is a single lens reflex (SLR) digital camera.
Summary: I absolutely love this camera and have had so much fun getting to grips with it, exploring depth of field, long exposures with light and post processing my RAW images with lightroom and photoshop.. Fantastic!
Pros: The Picture quality available at an entry level dslr is fantastic and has helped me affordably move away from digital cameras and phone cameras.
Cons: No bracketing feature, or external mic input and accessories are expensive.
Excerpt: When I first tried the Nikon D3100, I was happy with its size and weight. I am not an expert but i do love photography and having lived with Point and shoot all my life, i finally decided I have to have DSLR. The kit came with a 18-55mm AF-S Nikkor lens. What i love about the kit it is that it already has a VR feature that reduces shakes when taking photos handheld. The images are crisp and professional-looking.
Good for the money but the newer D3200 is better so compare prices

Summary: This is a very good camera and is being offered at some impressively low prices. The picture quality is far better than compact cameras, so if you're moving up from a snapshot camera you will be seriously impressed. However, the newer D3200 has even better picture quality. The D3100's 14 megapixel sensor is good, but the D3200's 24 megapixel sensor is amazing.
