A great camera for the amateur who wants to learn more.

Summary: Easy to use, good pictures, and fun. I am just about to retire. I wanted a good camera but not a point and shoot. I don't manually adjust cameras but I like the SLR features. This camera is easy to use as for a non-expert photographer but it offers a lot of upside if I learn more and more about photography. I've gotten some remarkable pictures and enjoy the ease of use.
Summary: The camera is great, and takes great pictures. This is my first SLR camera, so I wasn't too sure how to use it, but this has options in the camera where you just click a question mark and it tells you what certain things in the camera do, instead of having to go the book to find out.
Summary: I like the camera, but I am disappointed that the monitor can not be used to frame pictures. I like using the viewfinder but there are situations where the monitor capability would be helpful. With this camera, the monitor can only be used to view pictures.
Summary: My D40 body was not functioning properly and I couldn't find a place for repair. Found this used one and the seller is actually in the same state. It's very clean and everything woirks. Only negatives were a generic camera strap and a generic battery.
Summary: This camera has the CCD sensor, NOT CMOS as claimed in the amazon description. I owned this camera, sold it and moved to the D3100 with a cmos sensor. The D3000 went with me to Europe and other vacation spots and I was very happy with the results. It's a fine entry level camera, and considering the negative reviews it gets, you can probably get it at a bargain price! Just have fun with it. Don't obsess over all the tech nonsense!
