The Nikon D3000 is rumoured to be a slimmed down entry level DSLR camera, specifically a scaled down version of the Nikon D5000. Having analyzed its pictures thoroughly against the D5000, analysts have concluded that it will supposedly have a smaller body, no HDM connector, no microphone, and likely no articulating display. It is said to be the replacement of the Nikon D40, with parts built from Nikon’s existing parts inventory.

The Nikon D3000 is expected to have a smaller body than the Nikon D5000 and lacking a swivel LCD display. It is also shorter in stature and has reduced-size flash components, with a possibly smaller view finder. It will also possibly omit a microphone, while the smaller cover for ports suggests a missing HDMI connection. Not only that, it is also expected to incorporate the Nikon 50 mm f 1.8 on it.
See lessThe D3000 is a refinement of the D60 which now sits at the low-end of Nikon's entry-level DSLRs. It improves on the D60 with 11 autofocus points, up from 3 and a larger LCD. Unfortunately, it did lose the eye-start sensor. It is a relatively compact DSLR with the most basic feature set. The D3000 is directly aimed at new DLSR owners. Read more
The bottom line: Its feature set is basic even by entry-level standards, but the Nikon D3000 delivers the photo quality and performance you expect when stepping up to a dSLR, with an optional interface that's very beginner friendly. Read more
There is something we should get out of the way before going any further though: the D3000 does not feature Live View or video recording. The latter isn’t an unusual omission on a budget DSLR, but the absence of Live View may bother those upgrading from a point-and-shoot. They’ve been used to framing with the screen at arm’s length, so switching to an optical viewfinder pressed against their eye is a big transition. To be fair though, Live View isn’t a foregone... The title of "Least Expensive Nikon SLR" passes from the increasingly antiquated D40 to more full-featured D3000, which in addition to gaining an impressive two decimal places over its predecessor, steps up from 6.1 to 10-megapixel resolution, adds Nikon's dust cleaning system, and ships with an image-stabilized VR lens. Great steps forward, certainly, but no leaps beyond the basics either. The D3000 doesn't offer Live View mode. Despite the fact that this is an... Read more
Review based on a production Nikon D3000 There is a temptation amongst those of us that shoot with and test DSLRs for a living to be more than a little dismissive about entry-level cameras like the Nikon D3000. However, first-time DSLR buyers are enormously important to camera manufacturers, and the competition amongst them for a share of the entry-level market is intense. The D60, which is replaced by the D3000, was Nikon's best-selling DLSR, and it is the success of... Read more
Always been a big fan of Nikon DSRL's, I really like how the D3000 feels in my hands. I am also glad they bumped up the auto focus points from 3 'D40/D60' to 11 for quick autofocusing. The extra resolution allows for cropping the picture while still retaining a fairly large photo for print/uploads. New menu system will make it easy for beginners and they can advance as they learn. Overall I'm very pleased with my camera. Nikon has made another great camera in my opinion. Read more
To pirinchov, just to come to an almost objective rating. People using other brands should do the same! Pirinchov is obviously paid by Sony or totally confused. Read more

If you have wanted to try DSLR cameras out but were intimitated by their complexity, don't be...anymore! Exellent value for a very nice camera. Much easier to use than anticipated. The manual, the guide mode (on camera) and the information displayable for each shot taken actually teaches you how to take beautiful pictures in all kinds of conditions. Of course, the auto mode does essentially everything for you except frame and shoot if you desire, making this camera a... Read more
