Corrections, added conclusion: 5/4/05 Corrections, ACR 3.1 5/6/05 Update: 10/05/05 D2xs update: 8/30/06 WT-2 comments: 1/22/07 Nikon D2x and D2xs Review Was the wait worth it? Add a comment or send Thom feedback on this article. I've added D2xs-specific comments in red. The D2xs is enough like the D2x that the bulk of the review is still valid. I haven't bothered to replace "D2x" with "D2x and D2xs" in the original portions of the review, but you can safely do so as you... Read more
The Nikon D2X is the lastest in Nikon's series of digital SLRs and goes head-to-head with the Canon 1D mark II and 1Ds mark II. In pixel count the D2X at 12.4MP comes between the 8.2MP 1D mark II and the 16.7 MP 1Ds mark II. It matches the 1Ds frame rate of 5 fps, and in a reduced pixel mode (6.8MP) its 8fps matches the 8.5fps (but 8MP images) of the 1D mark II. Read more
Nikon D2X digital reflex camera The Nikonians have had to wait a long time for the Nikon D2X. For some maybe just a bit too long. And after the introduction it took a while before the first cameras were shipped. But all this waiting was well worth it. The Nikon D2X is definitely one of the best D-SLRs available these days. Especially looking at its price the D2X offers a heck of a lot and therefore it's not a surprise seeing the D2X regularly in the field. It's a special... Read more
When Nikon announced the D2X last year at photokina there was a good deal of anticipation about it, and a good wait that followed until it finally arrived. In the meantime, Canon countered with their EOS-1Ds Mark II, which in many ways shaped the competitive landscape. With a street price of $4999.95, Nikon’s flagship digital SLR is $3000 less than the $8000 (body only) Mark II, albeit with a smaller CMOS sensor. Has the D2X met and surpassed expectations? In my mind... Read more
$5,250?????? Amazon's price for this outdated DX format camera is insulting... Amazon wants less ($4,350) for the full frame D3!!! Is there anything magical about this older camera for it to demand such a price? Read more
This is my main camera now and I use it to take and sell nature and wildlife photographs. After using the D70, D2H, and D2Hs, I finally was able to purchase a used D2X from a Professional Wildlife Photographer. I have loved it since I purchased it. The ... Read more
I've used Nikon cameras for approximately 40 years. I typically use an F100 (film based), N80. I also have the D100. The D2x is in a class by itself. The image quality is very high for a digital. What I really appreciate about this camera is the handling and the ergonomic placement of the controls. I took it out of the box and just started using, no instructions needed. The ISO, White Balance and Quality level are grouped and easy to see. The view finder presents all... Read more
I am greatly impressed with the Nikon D2x. With this SLR camera, Nikon has proved that there isn't a need for a digital with 35mm frame size. The 35mm format is no holy grail, and lenses designed for 35mm do not work ideally with a digital sensor of 35mm dimensions. The sensors in the Nikons and some Canons use the sweet spot of the lens, not allowing distortion from the edges of wide angle lenses to affect the image. And with the new wide angle lenses users have all the... Read more
