Summary: I picked up mine as a backup camera, but mostly out of sheer impulse. I like massive cameras and I like finding out how much one can get out of outdated technology, so I picked it up for super cheap on here and decided to find out. Full disclosure: I had already played around with a D1 I picked up in a thrift store (lol), but it was slightly broken so I sold it for parts. People can blabber on all they want about megapixels, full frame, etc. Yes those things are great...
Awesome find with late Serials. Great starter in Nikon Digital.

Summary: I bought my first Nikon D1 here on Ebay in late 2003. After a few years, internal issues had me looking for it's replacement. Of course the D2's were out and the D3 had just come along, but I had heavily invested in the D1 family and went looking a a D1x to replace my dying D1. Other than some control and setting differences, I readily adjusted to my D1x and kept right on going.
The D1x is a great camera at a great price. NiMH Batteries can be modified!

Summary: The D1x is an outstanding camera. The camera has been around for over a decade but that in no way diminishes its quality. Anyone interested in a professional digital camera at a bargain price should look at the D1x and D1h. The only real drawback that this camera has is it's abysmally poor batteries that drain overnight when not in use.
Summary: What a bargain to get a camera of such quality and features for so little. A little heavy but I actually like the weight in my hands. The batteries are a little outdated and have a rather short life compared to todays standards but get an AC adapter for studio shots and you are fine.
Summary: I just bought this camera from our studio, which we had 15 of them, most of them are not working due to usage condition over the years. From Amazon I ordered Nikon 50mm 1.8 lens and battery for it. However, I did try D1x with studio's 50mm 1.8 and works perfectly. I have Canon 40D, before that I had Canon 30D and before that I had Canon 350D and none of them can produce pictures that good and sharp. Colors are amazing, focusing is very fast and on the spot.
Summary: I'm just learning all the ways to the camera........................................................................................................................................................................
Summary: This is the best kept secret in digital photography. Yes, I love my D7000, but at approximately 1/3 the resolution, pound for pound, dollar for dollar, this beast delivers. The color and texture of the images seems to be a bit different then anything else I have ever shot and much closer to film then current digital cameras. I have a Nikon 18-200 VR lens that was just OK on my other Nikon DSLRs. On the D1x, the lens shines.
Summary: Amazing camera! Since I do a lot of Coreal Painter post- processing, the megapixels are more than enough. With that said, the seller recommended shooting RAW for the best results. Well I can safely say that he was right on. My Epson 1400 printer produced sharp 13x19's. You won't go wrong if you buy one!
