Conclusion: The Nikon Coolpix S9 is a small, stylish and affordable camera. A 3X zoom lens is self-contained in the camera and the 2.5 inch LCD on the back offers good resolution and viewing. Unfortunately, that LCD previewing won't last long without a viewfinder and below average battery life. Performance was just average - unless you're a sports shooter or used faster cameras (like Canon or Panasonic) before, you won't mind.
Pros: 3X internal zoom lens, Stylish design, Good LCD visibility and resolution, Tolerable (Average) performance, Nice movie mode, Good image quality with low noise, Affordably priced
Cons: Below average battery life, Limited continuous shooting, Plastic tripod mount, tiny buttons, No manual controls, No exposure info or histograms, Redeye, corner softness and color fringing, No movie optical zoom
Excerpt: When you take the Nikon Coolpix S9 (street $210) out of its box, the immediate impression is of an antique, elegant cigarette case from one of those 1940's black and white detective films. Small in size with gently sloping, speckled chrome on the body and highly polished chrome sides give it a sophistication and style that will appeal to just about anyone.
Excerpt: Nikon Coolpix S9 has a slim, stylish, metal design and fits easy in all pockets. By featuring One-Touch Portrait Button (automatically activates In-Camera Red-Eye Fix and Face-Priority), Face-Priority AF , D-Lighting (improves brightness and details where needed), In-Camera Red-Eye Fix and BBS – Best Shot Selector , Nikon technology improves your photos automatically with no need of extra work, thing that also makes the camera easy to use.

Excerpt: In the run-up to Photokina, Nikon updated its S (Style) line with two new digital cameras. The Nikon Coolpix S9 was one of the two with the Coolpix S10 as the other one. The S9 features 6 megapixel resolution, a 3x optical zoom, and 2.5 inch LCD in a very stylish, slim body shaped like its predecessors, the S5 and S6.
Conclusion: As you can see from the points I like and points I am not so happy about I am struggling to come up with reasons to buy the Nikon Coolpix S9. It is one of those digital cameras that looks good, but in my opinion does not really hit the mark.
Pros: Help text
Cons: Design causes problem with finger over lens, Picture quality is average, Shutter lag, Short flash range
Summary: An affordably-priced slimline digicam for snapshooters and travellers. At $150 less than the Coolpix S8, Nikon's Coolpix S9 looks like a good buy. Although its sensor resolution is lower, at 6-megapixels it is still high enough for snapshots, which will be the main application for this camera. Both cameras have 3x optical zoom lenses, although the S8 covers a slightly wider angle of view.
Summary: The Nikon Coolpix S9 would make a perfect Christmas gift
for the snap-shooter in your family, but if you're a more
serious photographer you probably wouldn't rush out and buy
one for yourself. The two words that best sum-up the S9 are
"stylish" and "adequate". The "S"
in Nikon Coolpix S9 stands for "Style", and this
camera certainly delivers on that promise.
