Summary: Defective camera and/or battery. Worked through one charge of battery and now either battery will not charge or camera will not power on (after charging battery for 6+ hours). Fat Owls customer service was of no help at all. Their suggestion was to follow up with Nikon for warranty service, which I am doing. And their Web site is an absolute joke. I would not buy from Fat Owls again, regardless of the price.
Summary: I really liked this camera when I first received it. However, within about 4 mos, I noticed some kind of powdery looking effect on the lower corner of the lcd screen when it is off. It didn't seem to affect the photos, and I was too busy to deal with warranty at that time. The powdery effect has spread a bit now, and I have no idea what it is. At first, I was impressed with being able to take a large number of photos on one charge.
Summary: Not happy with this purchase, We have gotten these many times from Best Buy and have had really good luck. These are used for investigations outside in our business. These three seem like refurbished ones. Not new. One has lense issues and the other doesn't hold a charge. I have given the 3rd one out to replace one and we shall see how it works out.
Summary: I wish I could give a lower rating. This camera worked fine for a few months, but the camera broke out of nowhere! I've charged the camera up and it will not turn on. I am not the only one with this issue, and unfortunately I failed to notice. Boo to this camera.
Summary: *PLEASE READ BEFORE BUYING THIS CAMERA* Let me start this off by saying, this camera took great pictures and has AMAZING zoom/picture quality. It's easy to use and has a lot of cool features, and great quality HD video too. That being said, the low star review is due to the camera just stopped working suddenly and would not come back on. I work in IT for a living, so I troubleshoot technology on a daily basis.
Summary: I recently purchased this camera to have a compact camera with an aceptable images, I had read thru some comments here in amazon.com that some problems with the lens and zoom have been detected with this model, but having a look to the samples pictures I decided to go and purchase. That was a terrible error, just with a few pics taken the lens start giving a lens error message, then some noise of the motor of the lens, and then never started again.
Overheated in Video mode, froze scrolling through images
28 November 2012
Summary: I returned Nikon Coolpix S8200 camera mainly because when in play mode it would lock-up when scrolling through (still) pictures that I had taken. The only way I could correct was to remove and re-install the battery. It also overheated during video recording and stopped recording. The manual warns of this but I did not expect it to occur so quickly. I returned the camera and received a full refund from Amazon.
Summary: I was pleased with the camera initially and thought it produced reliable, sharp pictures. However after about 4 months of use (a 3-4 school functions, and 1 Europe trip), the camera stopped being able to take pictures. I sent it back to Nikon, who did not honor their 1 year warranty. They claimed there was "impact damage" that voided the warranty. I do not remember any "impact damage", and have owned several Canon cameras over the years without this problem.
Summary: When we originally received this camera was impressed but now after several months not at all. The battery dies all the time even having just charged it. Will take one or two pictures and then won't. Shuts it self off when trying to view pictures. Now unable to take any pictures at all as it will not stay on long enough. When you turn it on nothing shows on screen. Would not buy this camera again.
Summary: I wanted to love this camera and from the reviews, I really think I would have except for one item I discovered after I opened the box. To charge the battery, it requires four (4) items. Their charger which connects to their proprietary cable which is needed to connect to the camera which then charges the battery. My other cameras only require the charger and the battery snaps into the charger. The cable is a non-standard cable. If it was a standard cable..
