Nikon Coolpix S8100 Review: What An Awesome Little Camera
12 May 2011
Pros: Great image quality., Dude, did you see the 10x in the 1080p video?, Easy controls (except that scene knob) and interface., Battery life. Using it on and off for posts and regular outings, I’ve only charged the S8100 once this week., Good build.
Cons: THAT SHORT SCENE KNOB!, Occasional (but rare) focusing crap-outs.
Conclusion: It would be fantastic if Nikon could produce a similar sized camera with greater exposure control via aperture and shutter priority options (or even manual exposure mode) for advanced users.
Excerpt: The Nikon Coolpix S8100 has a conservative yet still appealing design, with the metal body finished in a glossy black coating that's now helpfully rubberised on the front half. The S8100 is very slim for a camera with a 10x zoom lens, but note that the camera does measure nearly 70mm deep when the zoom is fully extended. At 183g it's also quite a light camera, and just about fits in both the palm of your hand or a shirt pocket.
Excerpt: Although it's not stuffed to overflowing with technology, the Nikon Coolpix S8100 has all the essentials, plus a few features that help you get decent shots in tricky situations, notably in low light and fast action situations.
