Excerpt: I used to have a very good Sony DSC-W350 some time back. I loved the camera a lot, but unfortunately I left it in a rental car some time back. During the period between when I bought the Sony and now, Nikon released a new line of digital cameras, …
Summary: This camera is beyond a disappointment-a first, it would refuse to open intermittently-now, it has stopped opening or turning on altogether! Obviously, it is useless! At almost $300, this is an outrage, especially since Amazon does not accept returns after 30 days!
Summary: I would recommend this item to anyone. It lasted less than three months before it began to fail and finally quit all together just hours before our wedding day. We had to rely on friends and disposable cameras for pictures. This camera is garbage.
Summary: I was disappointed that a small user-friendly owners manual was not included in the camera packaging. Also, this is the first time I have purchased a like camera where an AC adapter battery charger is not included.
Summary: I won't be considering the other brands of digital cameras I had used in the past when & if it comes time to replace this Nikon CoolPix S8000. Some digital cameras are great at Macro (close-up) photography but may lack clarity when taking a Landscape shot (& visa-versa).
Summary: We have had this camera for just over a year and the lens mechanism failed in the middle of a big vacation trip in Europe. The lens makes a grinding sound in trying to open up as well as retract. It started with the lens cover leaves only partly retracting and after a couple days, complete failure.

Summary: I bought this for a trip to India, and was amazed by how good it was, once I accidentally discovered some of its 'hidden features.' (They were mostly hidden because I was too busy to read the manual.) I didn't realize until toward the end of the trip how great the pictures it was taking were.
