12.1 megapixel in a stylish, high-tech ultra-compact

digitalcameraroundup.com
30 November 2011
  • Summary: The Coolpix S700 is a elegant, small and handy camera that emphasizes style and plenty of technology. It has spectacular 12.1 megapixel resolution and comes in a very elegant brushed aluminum housing. It's small enough to fit anywhere, yet has a very large and razor-sharp 2.7-inch LCD that remains quite readable outdoors thanks to an anti-reflection coating.
  • Pros: 12.1 megapixel resolution, Terrific hi-res 2.7 inch screen, Elegant brushed aluminum design, Very small and handy, Optical sensor-shift image stabilization AND electronic VR, Face recognition mode, distortion control and more, Voice recording, Full speed VGA movies with sound
  • Cons: No optical zoom during movies, Multi selector a bit cumbersome, Costly

The Nikon Coolpix S700: Small with Plenty of Options

Digital Home Thoughts
14 January 2008
  • Conclusion: A Great Buy My fairly minor complaints aside, when you consider that this camera has an MSRP of $349 CAD/$329 USD, and that you can pick up this camera from Amazon.com for $259 USD [affiliate], for the price this camera delivers a lot of bang for the buck. Depending on where you are in the world, you may find the Canon SD870 for within $40 of the S700 - then the decision becomes more difficult and it comes down to features (and how important the wider-angle lens on the...

Nikon Coolpix S700 Review

Digital Camera Review
3 January 2008
  • Excerpt: Nikon ’s new flagship compact camera, the Nikon Coolpix S700 , has been built up by the company’s press department as one of the quickest compacts on the market. Speed and precision, courtesy of Nikon’s EXPEED image processing, may be the way out from under the long shadow cast by rival Canon ’s quick and compact SD-series camera. Clearly Nikon is gunning for the new, very sleek SD870 IS with the S700.
  • Pros: Nice looking high-ISO shots, Superb image sharpness, Warm, pleasing flash shots, Ease of use
  • Cons: Consistently slow AF, Less-than-smooth display, Build quality flimsy in places

  • Summary: Nikon's S700 isn't an incredible compact camera, but it does the job combining good pictures with a reasonable feature set, which will be fine for most consumers.
  • Pros: Good colour balance, noise low until ISO 400, very low shutter lag
  • Cons: Shots not always as crisp as we'd like, some haloing, quite pricey

Nikon Coolpix S700

PhotoReview
1 November 2007
  • Summary: A high-resolution, slimline digicam with features and performance that will suit snapshooters.Nikon's Coolpix S700 has many of the same features as the Coolpix S510 model - including the EXPEED image processor - but sports a higher-resolution (12.1 megapixels effective) image sensor and larger LCD monitor. Its zoom lens covers a marginally longer focal length range (equivalent to 37-111mm in 35mm format) and supports closer focusing than the S510.
