Summary: Worked well for about 3 months and then died. Service is a big issue with the Coolpix; very limited facilities for repair. If you're going to buy a lower-priced digital camera - and, yes, many of them seem to have issues - you should buy one you know you can have serviced in an area local to you. Think our best option will be to save up and buy a more reliable camera next time - in the $400 range they seem to have much better durability.
Summary: I bought the camera at Christmas last year. By Easter it was not working properly. The lens would not come out all the way and therefore pictures could not be taken. It spent a month in repairs after which I got it back and it worked for about 50 images or so then it went back 2 more times for repairs ( it was there most of the summer). Each of those second 2 times the camera came back not working at all… it wouldn't even turn on!!!
Summary: Do not buy! Mine worked OK for a short time, then I received a 'battery expired' message after about 15 pictures. I tried 2 different new batteries, but the camera won't turn on. It was a gift so I'm hoping the giver can find the receipt. I checked some Nikon websites and found that many of these cameras susuddenly will no longer turn on.
Very disappointed was looking forward to having a working camera..

Summary: I bought this camera with anticipation. I set the date, time, etc. Took it to a singing competition and it would not turn on! I was stunned and saddened. I can't afford another. Was hoping for some ideas as to why this would happen.
Summary: I purchased a coolpix S5200 camera 1 year ago. The first time I attempted to use it, it would not turn on. I took the battery out, put it back in and it worked for a few weeks and then it would not turn on. I returned it to the store and they were unable to fix it. They sent it back to the company and I received a new camera several weeks later. I used it around the holidays and took a few pictures in February and the new one worked great. I charged it up today.
Summary: Bought in December 2013. In February of 2014 camera said "lens error" when I tried to turn it on. Sent back for repair. It was under warranty so there was no charge but I did have to pay to send it back. Then in May camera did the same thing. I called Nikon and was told that I would have to send it to a different company (precision) for repair because they need help repairing all the s5200 cameras that have problems.
Summary: I purchased this camera for a family beach vacation. I tried it out before we left and it worked fine but when I tried to use it on vacation, I got the LENS ERROR error - no pictures for my vacation! I sent it to Nikon to repair and they want $118 to repair it, even though I JUST purchased it! I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing.
