Summary: I have bought more than 12 cameras for friend and me. I tried canon, panasonic lumix, and kodak. I studied and enjoyed them. My daughter needs a small camera for her project. I told myself that I should try another brand - nikon this time. I compared several types and pick the nikon coolpix S5100. After my daughter received this camera, it never produced a good image. the picture looks good in the screen of camera, but really bad in computer.
Summary: I BOUGHT THIS CAMARA ON DECEMBER LAST YEAR, AND SIX MONTHS LATER ONE SMALL SPOT IN THE DISPLAY APPEARED; THEN IT GREW TO 1/4" DIAMETER; THEN TWO WEEKS AGO THE CAMERA DID NOT SHOOT OR DID NOT OPEN THE SHUTTER. BASED ON PREVIOUS REVIEW I AM NOT EVEN BOTHER TRYING TO SEND IT FOR REPAIR, INSTEAD I PREFERED TO LET EVERYBODY KNOWS HOW BAD THIS PRODUCT FROM NIKON IS. I DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE TO PURCHASE A NIKON COOLPIX CAMERA.
Summary: This camera worked great for a few months and then all at once it started to destroy batteries. I kept purchasing(3) high end recommended batteries and after about a month after they charged they went dead and would not recharge. This holds true for every battery I purchased. I tried the batteries in my friends camera and they would not longer charge for her either. This has turned out to be a very expensive camera to operate.
Summary: I bought this camera for my son about 10 months ago. About 5 months ago, the camera developed black lines and dots on the rear monitor. We sent it in to Nikon for repair under their warranty. Instead, we got a notice saying Nikon wanted to charge us $105.46 to repair the camera. I called and asked why. They said the problem was cause by undue pressure on the camera, as if something heavy had been set on it. When we bought the camera, we also purchased a hard shell case.
Summary: Same problem as 2 other reviewers. My LCD screen developed a black defect after a few days. I was able to exchange it for a new one. The next one started developing the defects after about 6 weeks. I may try my luck with the warranty. Very disappointing.
Screen developed a huge smudge shortly after receiving it

Summary: I was really excited about this camera, I pre ordered it and everything. After about two weeks of having the camera (in a case in my purse) a huge line across the bottom of the screen formed. As time progressed and I used the camera the line began to spread larger, although it's not reflected on the photos it's an eye sore to look at. I also wasn't a 100% satisfied with the quality of the pictures. The color of the camera (blue) is pretty though on a higher note :).
Summary: Two Months ago I selected this camera,because of its light weight, to take on vacation instead of my full frame digital Canon. While on vacation I took approximately 400 images. About halfway through, the monitor developed a large smudge. On returning from vacation the images were downloaded. The smudge on the monitor was not reflected on the downloaded images. I wrapped up the defective camera and sent it to the service department for warranty service.
Summary: HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. Just purchased for Christmas present. Good thing I checked to make sure camera worked before giving as present. I charged the battery, turned camera on, and LENS DOES NOT WORK. Lens retracts after a second or two and "LENS ERROR" message appears on LCD screen. Removed and reinstalled battery and tried a few more times...still same lens error. Sending back to Amazon. Will purchase another brand camera.

Summary: Anfang 2011 habe ich mir die Nikon Coolpix S5100 in pink gekauft und war am Anfang auch einigermaßen zufrieden, wobei mich schon öfter verärgert hat, das die schönsten Momente oft weg waren, bevor die Kamera reagierte und fotografierte. Ich mache Hauptsächlich Fotos von Tieren (Meerschweinchen), da ich eine Notstation besitze und meine HP immer auf dem neusten Stand halte.
