    I do landscape photography with high-end cameras, but I use a point-and-shoot camera to scout potential locations. The S4000 replaced my old Fuji. It has a large 3-inch LCD screen that is sharp and reasonably bright. Read more or see product

    This camera drives me insane, the only good thing I find of it is that it's a "touch screen" and looks savvy. The quality of pictures and video isn't anything special though. Read more

    • It's a touch screen, light-weight, small.
    • For some reason there's a broken pixel on the screen when in video mode and it can't be fixed, also it can't read the memory card when in video mode, takes too long to turn on, and runs out of battery quickly.

The Nikon CoolPix S4000 is powered by rechargeable Li-ion battery which provides users with up to 190 shots. The Nikon CoolPix S4000 measures 94.5 x 56.5 x 20.4 mm (3.8 x 2.3 x 0.8 in.) and weighs 131 g (4.7 oz.) with battery and SD memory card.

Features

The Nikon CoolPix S4000 is a 12.0 effective megapixels for high-resolution images powered by a 4x zoom NIKKOR lens. The camera features a 3.0 inch 460k-dot TFT LCD touch screen with shooting control such as Touch Shutter, White Balance adjustment with slider and Subject Tracking. It also has playback controls for thumbnail selection, gives users the ability to scroll through images and a Paint Function. The camera also features four imag4 stabilizing function such as Electronic VR image stabilization that reduces blurry photos; ISO 3200 sensitivity to capture images in low light conditions, Motion Detection mode provides users with sharp, steady results; and BSS (Best Shot Selector) which shoots a maximum of 10 sequential shots and selects the sharpest image. The camera also features movie shooting at HD 720p for high-definition images, Smart Portrait System which includes Face-priority AF, Smart Portrait Mode, Blink Warning and In-Camera Red-Eye Fix; Scene Auto Selector; and Quick Retouch for contrast and saturation adjustments. The camera can be recharged via its USB interface from a Charging AC Adapter EH-68P/EH-68P (AR) or PC.

    Bought two, August on vacation, early October in Washington. Both cameras failed to download pictures after approx. two months of use. Returned to Nikon for repair and Nikon declines warranty service, no explanation. Repair costs rival replacement costs. Customer service is in Dominican Republic, cameras are in El Segundo, CA. Customer service nonetheless was expert at identifying the problem and knowledgeably able to deny coverage. I would not recommend this camera, or any Nikon product to anyone based on this experience.   • Would anyone recommmend this camera to a teen?

    My daughter wants the Nikon coolpix s4000 camera for Chrisitmas but I want to know if it's a good quality camera; the first digial camera I bought her was a piece of junk and a total waste of money. Would this be a good match for her? Also, does the touch screen scratch easily? She would take care of the camera but would most likely carry it in her purse, probably not in a case. Any thoughts?
