Quite disappointed with the Coolpix S1

Raymond Pauly, Amazon
26 December 2008
  • Summary: I am an active serious advanced amateur photographer. I own several cameras, both digital and film, SLRs and point-and-shoots. I sell and buy cameras all the time and I have done quite a lot of research with different brands and models.

decent point&shoot camera

Overstock
11 November 2006
  • Summary: i love it! decent camera for a decent price! the only complaint i have is the flash. half of the time some of the night time pictures come out nasty and grainy. but it takes great pictures if you know how to use the camera and its features! bought it about six months ago and still works great.

Photos are so-so

S. Hindle, Amazon
8 January 2006
  • Summary: I bought this camera for my husband at Christmas and we were both very disappointed. The quality of photos compared to our Canon and Kodak digital cameras (both of which are 3 to 5 years old!) is not that great. Colors seemed a bit lifeless.

Nice small form factor but not so great pictures

Gaurav Srivastva, Amazon
17 May 2005
  • Summary: I have a Canon Powershot G2 and my wife\'s cousin bought this camera (Nikon Coolpix S1). We both took pictures at lots of different light settings and here is my conclusion about this camera. Pros: 1. Very small and thin. Easily put in pocket. 2.

Nice design, only OK pictures

jack slice, Amazon
14 May 2005
  • Summary: I bought this camera primarily for it's compact size so I could carry it in my pocket anywhere I go. Nikon has always produced a quality product, and this camera feels solid and looks good. The screen size is a major plus. As far as the images go, they are only OK.

Coolpix s1 - Lovely little compact camera

Huomenna, Ciao
1 October 2009
  • Excerpt: I've had this camera or around three years and use it when I don't have or need my dslr. As a compact digital camera it's getting on in years now and has been surpassed by newer models, that said it's still a worthwhile purchase.
  • Pros: good design, large lcd, photo quality, sd card, simple to use
  • Cons: no viewfinder, poor abilities in low light

Nikon Coolpix S1

Eazy_Ride..., Ciao
9 February 2009
  • Excerpt: Nikon Coolpix S1. I bought this camera from Curries via their website for £169 back in 2006, so it is relatively old now, and in terms of the advance in cameras, is almost an antique!
  • Pros: Small, compact and very easy to use !
  • Cons: Old, not as good as more recent cameras .

Poor Indoor/Low Light Performance

"bob30405", Amazon
13 April 2007
  • Summary: I've had my new Coolpix S1 for a few days now and have to say that I'm disappointed with its performance. Whilst the image quality is acceptable for this type of camera in well lit outdoor scenes, if fails to take acceptable images indoors or in poor light conditions.

poor low light capture

"kegansz", Amazon
13 April 2007
  • Summary: overall i would said S1 is a good product. Big LCD screen, slim and handy. however, when it's come to low light or night view capture without using flash, the results is poor. no matter how stable your hand is or even when you lie the camera on something, the result is still blur.
