  • Summary: While the Nikon Coolpix P90 brings its performance up to speed with the rest of its class, it now falls behind in photo quality.
  • Pros: Relatively speedy; tiltable LCD; two custom settings slots on mode dial.
  • Cons: Subpar photo quality; poor battery life.

Nikon COOLPIX P90

Tech2
9 January 2010
  • Excerpt: We checked out the Nikon COOLPIX P80 earlier this year, and were really impressed by its feature-rich offerings and awesome performance. It's time now to get down and dirty with the Nikon Coolpix P90 – which like its predecessor – shows great promise! The P90 looks almost identical to the P80, and has similar dimensions and weight – 83 x 114 x 99 mm and 400 grams. In other words, it looks great and weighs just about right.

  • Conclusion: 12 Megapixel Nikon Coolpix P90 megazoom digital camera There is a significant amount of mega-zoom cameras available to the consumer. The Nikon Coolpix P90 must therefore really distinguish itself from the masses. Moreover; the expectations of a "real" Nikon camera are often higher than average. There is no shortage of advanced innovative imaging solutions for this camera.

Nikon Coolpix P90 Review

Digitaltrends
4 August 2009
  • Conclusion: After checking reputable online sites for prices, we found the P90 for around $360, which on the face of it doesn’t seem too bad. But – and it’s a big but – the Sony DSC-HX1 goes for $50 more. This is the best Ulysses Grant you’ll ever spend, even though the zoom is less powerful (see our review here for the details). The Sony’s Sweep Panorama, 10 fps shooting and 1080P put it way ahead of this Coolpix. Then again, there may be people who don’t care one whit about video.
  • Pros: 24x zoom (26-624mm); 3-inch vari-angle LCD; accurate colors; extensive feature set
  • Cons: Relatively slow; no RAW capture; manually operated flash; poor VGA videos

Nikon COOLPIX P90

Camera Labs
1 April 2009
  • Summary: Nikon’s COOLPIX P90 is the latest in a steady stream of new super-zoom digital cameras, and looks promising from the outset with a longer range and higher resolution than many key rivals. With 12.1 Megapixels and a 24x optical zoom range, it out specifies both the Canon PowerShot SX10 IS and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28, which are leaders in this market.
  • Pros: Massive 24x range with 26mm wide angle., 3in monitor which can tilt up or down., Ergonomic body with full manual control., Interval and time-lapse shooting.
  • Cons: Smearing on images and fringing at telephoto., Coarse-looking screen., No optical zoom when filming video., Short battery life.

Nikon Coolpix P90

Cameras
8 August 2014
  • Conclusion: The Nikon Coolpix P90 offers a cheaper option to the top of the range Canon and Sony models. It does most things well, takes a good quality photo and has an impressive set of features.
  • Pros: Colours - picture quality - features
  • Cons: Purple fringing can be an issue - taking more than one photo at a time can be slow

A compact digital camera with a massive 24x zoom

Good Gear Guide.au
5 February 2010
  • Summary: Nikon's Coolpix P90 is perfect if you want a small camera with a massive zoom. It doesn't take excellent photos, but it's quality is good enough for A4 prints and for sharing your pics online.
  • Pros: 24x zoom, reasonable low-light performance, ISO-limiting function
  • Cons: Colours looked too pale, too much noise at ISO 800, screen doesn't swivel for self-portraits, feels too small
