Impressive zoom. Not so impressive in otherways

  • Excerpt: This camera has a great zoom and 10.1 megapixels.  With the automatic function outside in natural light I get great photos even in the fast action sports mode.  But indoors is another story.  Seldom does automatic mode get the lighting right which results in off color photos.  If you have the skill to set the adjustments yourself, buy a SLR.  If you will be relying on the automatic function and will be taking a lot of indoor pictures, buy another camera.

No strap

Overstock
14 April 2010
  • Summary: This is a nice bag that came with my camera, however, keep in mind and notice there is no strap or ability to fasten anything to this bag. The design is for the camera to go into the bag, and it shuts with velcro (which is secure). You then use the camera straps to carry it around your neck. Okay, thats all good, however, when you take the camera out of the bag, to take a picture, you are left holding the bag.

Average Image Quality, some quirks

RonAnnArbor, Amazon
12 June 2009
  • Summary: I tried this camera this week, and found myself returning it within a couple days. In all honesty, I had read good things and I had hoped perhaps this would serve me as a bridge camera between my Canon G9 and my dSLR camera. First, it is nicely made, and feels good in the hand. It works smoothly, and is relatively quiet during operation. The lens is high quality, and it has the standard Nikon layout on the selection dial.

  • Excerpt: I have bought the camera after reading reviews "it's nearly as good as a DSLR". The shape looks promising too ;-) Well, the construction and body shape are fine, but the innards not really. After testing the camera in various conditions for a whole day I decided to return it. Possibly, just my perfectionism, however I am feeling a lot better with my old D70 + 18-70. Problems: Combination of color noise and sharpening artifacts. Chromatic aberrations. Zoom in steps only.

  • Excerpt: It will do almost everything my Minolta SLR will do and is very light and easy to use. Not quite pocket size unless it's a large pocket Image quality in the lower ISO range is more than acceptable Problems: It could do with a filter thread for at least a UV filter as a lens protector and for a polariser.

  • Excerpt: After extensive testing and fidgeting with this camera I am returning it. I understand all limitations of the small sensor size, but the image quality of this camera is mediocre at best. I am talking about sharpness, resolution and noise. Anything above ISO 100 shows significant amount of grain (or noise reduction artifacts, if you enable that). This is noticed especially within gray areas of photos (shadows).

It's a tradeoff: zoom power vs. image quality

Emily Weiser, Amazon
13 May 2008
  • Summary: I was very optimistic about this camera, but like several other reviewers, I'm returning it soon after receiving it. I made a direct comparison between this camera and the one I've had for 4 years (Olympus C-750UZ, 10x, 4MP). The P80 certainly had better zoom range on both ends, was very user-friendly, and faster than my other camera. Noise in low light was a bit better on the P80, which also had faster shutter speed to help prevent blurring.

Better choices

fiddler "imbuzz", Amazon
8 May 2008
  • Summary: I have had this camera for only 2 days and it is on its way back. Its not terrible but it satisfies neither uses of a good Digital SLR camera or a convenient point and shoot. It is not in the class with for example a Nikon D40X as a (near) pro backup type of camera that I had hoped it might be for all the reasons you read elsewhere in these reviews.

World of experiences - Nikon P80

LiisuS, Ciao
31 May 2012
  • Excerpt: "...now. In my honest opinion Nikon P80 fits all the key-features in it´s 110x79x78mm body and it only weighs 365g. When using P80 you will find loads of nice qualities packed away in the small digital camera. It´s resolution is 10.1Mp. It has very, very many different shooting modes available including the DSLR-like A, M, S and P modes. Although, I have to admit, since the max aperture is f/2.8, I expected something a bit more professional as form the ...
