a decent ewntry - the clinchrer is the 18X optical zoom. Really the MAIN reason to buy it. It does everytrhing a good digicam is suposed to do- not outstanding, but in the typical Nikon journeyman way...It's responce time could be a wee bit better and there is shutter lag, but almost undesernable except for real MOVEMENT shots.. This camera is an excellent piece of equipment from Nikon. You must learn to use it before you critize or return it. It has a nice sharp focus. The streaks you see or read about in the samples or prior reviews are due to the user having the exposure compensation on a positive setting. This makes the picture much brighter than it needs to be.
