This mid-size digital camera, measuring 4.2 x 2.6 x 1.7 inches (W x H x D) excluding protrusions, is equipped with quite a few features found in digital SLRs. Available in black, the P6000 is constructed out of high quality materials with a magnesium alloy front panel. Without the battery, it weighs roughly 8.5 ounces.
The P6000 features a 13.5 megapixel, 1/1.72 inch CCD image sensor that snaps pictures at a high enough resolution to print images as large as 20 x 30 inches. The camera is equipped with a 4x zoom NIKKOR ED glass lens with wide-angle capability and features optical image stabilization.
At the back of the P6000 is a high-resolution LCD screen measuring 2.7 inches. The LCD features a wide viewing angle and an anti-reflection coating. In addition to the LCD screen, the camera also offers an optical viewfinder.
Another key feature of the COOLPIX P6000 is the integrated GPS receiver allowing the geo-tagging of each picture taken.
The P6000 also has three Nikon image technologies: In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, Face Priority AF (focus on up to 12 faces in a group shot) and D-Lighting. The latter allows the user to enhance underexposed areas of pictures to make them suitable for printing.
The camera supports the NRW RAW file format, which is only compatible with Microsoft Windows. It offers approximately 48 megabytes of internal memory and has an SD memory card slot. The P6000 is powered by an EN-EL5 rechargeable Li-ion battery which, when fully charged, allows the camera to take up to 260 shots. The camera can also be used with the supplied AC adapter.
In addition to a High-Speed USB port, the P6000 also offers an Ethernet port. With a LAN cable, the camera can upload pictures to the user’s my Picturetown, a Nikon picture storage service.
See lessThe P6000 makes an excellent choice for the point and shoot photographer who wants to exercise a little more creative control, yet is either overwhelmed by an SLR or can’t justify the cost. The zoom range is quite usable, and the image quality is excellent as long as you keep the ISO setting at 400 or below. Its main competition comes from Canon’s Powershot G10, which has a little better image quality at higher ISOs, but doesn’t include the GPS capability. If... Read more
Nikon Coolpix P6000 digital camera With the Coolpix P6000, Nikon shows exactly what is meant with a serious digital compact camera for the serious photographer. The camera of the P-series should be able to distinguish itself from the masses, and this is in fact exactly what the P6000 does. Most certainly compared to the other Coolpix models and to be frank, these do not resemble a true Nikon in my opinion. With its allround setting possibilities and unique features such... Read more
Nikon addressed the issues that kept its predecessor from being a great camera. The COOLPIX P6000 is a great stand alone point and shoot camera or a great complement to a digital SLR. Read more
The Coolpix P6000 ($499) is the flagship camera in Nikon's compact digital camera lineup. It features a 13.5 Megapixel CCD, a 4X wide-angle zoom lens, image stabilization, 2.7" LCD display, full manual controls, a hot shoe, and RAW format support. In addition to all that, the P6000 also has two very unique features: a built-in GPS receiver and an Ethernet port. Yes, you read that right, an Ethernet port, which is used to transfer photos to Nikon's My Picturetown service.... Read more
There's much to like about the Nikon Coolpix P6000, but there were also many disappointments. That a new feature like GPS isn't all you might hope for isn't a surprise, but a 13.5-megapixel sensor should really turn out better JPEGs than the Nikon P6000 manages. The good news is that the Raw files are better if processed properly, and look good with Nikon ViewNX, a free download. The bad news is that the default settings output oversaturated images. The Nikon P6000's... Read more
I bought the Nikon Coolpix P6000 as a companion for the Nikon D300 I already own. I needed a small, light point-and-shoot camera that I could throw in my bag or purse or pocket for those times when the D300 would be too heavy or obtrusive. I have only had the camera few weeks so far, but so far I am pleased with its performance, its functionality, and its portability. It is easy to use right out of the box and delivers a nice photo. One drawback (in my opinion) is the 13... Read more

Nikon Coolpix P6000 Digital Camera 4 let me start out by saying I know nothing about camera's. I am your every day user. Eric Hwang has put most of the concerns I have about this camera. I have only had this camera for about three hours now and see the power and GPS issues he talks about. I need to take pictures at remote radio sites on public land. I wanted to be able to know where the picture was taken. I order to find the name of the mountain and name of the site... Read more
You can not edit the pictures on picture project a super fast ans easy Nikon software, It's super quick and easy to re-sharpen and crop. the softwart package it comes with, well it might as well have not come with anything. The camera is built very well and easy to use, lots of options to select from, I would just have expected better picture quality for a Nikons top of the line point and shoot. Maybe I'm just use to my Nikon D-300 cameras. Very disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!!... Read more
