Excerpt: There are numerous names of manufacturers in the world of digital camera photography. Each one trying to get her share in the market that is quite vast. The effective features made in your device would determine the acceptance by the numerous procurers out there.
Summary: We live in a retirement community and my wife takes 6,000 (yes 6,000) pictures annually. Our camera is more than 3 years old now so we are talking about 20,000 pictures or so. As you can imagine I spend a good bit of time on the computer printing these out; but my wife is known as the "Picture Lady" and is much loved in the community. when the P5100 finally gives up we will definitely replace it with another Nikon.
Summary: This is a great little camera even thogh it is now out of production and probably replaced by equally competant (if not superior) models. Called an advanced point & shoot, it has many user adjustable features allowing more experimentation and more precise control of modes and parameters: largely things beyond my technical level but wonderful to have available. It's compact and durable with a handsome titanium body.
Summary: A former flagship product holds its own. A really excellent pocket camera. Lots of DSLR similar features packed in a small frame. Now that it is two model revisions behind the current model, also quite affordable. A poster child for the eBay experience.
Summary: I decided to buy this camera because I absoutely love takin pictures. Currently I have a Nikon CoolPix s52c and although I am pleased with the camera, I wanted to get more "high-tech" if you will. It takes crystal clear photos and so far I love it!!
Summary: Having lost my P5000, I knew the P5100 would be even a little better. Although used, it was very thoughtfully packed, with all accessories still wrapped as tho new. I've taken a few photos and it seems to have the same "action" as my old camera. I was going for the same feeling. I did have the option of buying a Nikon point and shoot with much better optical zoom - maybe that'll be my next camera. Or was tempted by Canon's G11 - tho it's a bit bigger.
Summary: This is a great camera for those wanting to take professional photos with the easy "point and shoot" stye. The Images come out clear and crisp with no pixelation to blur photos. The Camera is also highly functional while moving when shooting so you dont need to hold still for 30 seconds to take a great shot. This has been one of my favorit cameras to work with over the past 2 years. Its quality is highy professional yet easy to use in its small form.
Summary: When I was shopping for a camera, I was extremely finicky. I wanted something that took great pictures (obviously), had manual controls (i was just starting to get into photography at the time), and was very portable (if you can't take it everywhere, what good is it?). I spent months and months online reading reviews, shopping around, and decided on this camera. It has certainly delivered.
Conclusion: COMPETENT PERFORMER- I bought the Nikon P5100 over a year ago when I was looking for a very compact, but capable pocket camera. I love the size, grip, and manual settings and have managed to capture some excellent quality images with this little gem. The Nikon Speedlight SB400 is a nice addition, which happens to fit my full-size DSLR as well. Bouncing the light allows for more realistic portraits and improves the camera's versatility.
Summary: I've owned this camera for a year and a half, and I do not regret it. The absolute best thing I can say about this camera is that it is near indestructable A friend of mine dropped this camera on a concrete floor with the lens extended during my wedding, and all I had to do was pop the lens back a bit, and it still works GREAT.
