but this takes great pictures for me and I get awesome close up ...

Summary: I'm not a photographer, but this takes great pictures for me and I get awesome close up shots with the zoom. The "autopilot" settings are good for me. To date I've never worried about fine tuning the camera for any particular situation but am confident it could take very accurate pictures in doing so as the flash works great and the adjustable display turns out to be very handy for tough positions, additionally one of my favorite features of the camera.
Summary: I have had this camera for a while, it is good looking and compact. I picked this model because it has a viewfinder which enables me to see what I am shooting in any light condition, as I find the led screens impossible to see outdoors. My only problem is that the shutter button seems often unresponsive. I have read and re-read the manual to see what could cause this problem but did not find any answer. So I find this camera unreliable and disappointing.
Summary: This camera is really great for close up and long distance. I had the same camera but the 110 model and I wanted to upgrade. I got it for a great price, used, just gotta look around. I am very happy with it. The pictures are beautiful. I have heard people complain about the long distance being fuzzy, but if you wait until it focuses in, you can really see a long ways.
Summary: I bought this camera strictly for wildlife and scenery photography. I needed a powerful zoom, and this one has that. Also, when I am vacationing, I now just bring this one camera and leave all my lenses at home. For my uses this is a great little camera. The full zoom works best with a tripod, if you want to be able to steady the shot. However, it has a remarkably good stabilization power at full zoom.
this camera was everythimg i hoped it would be and more

Summary: my experience using the camera at first was a rocky start because of not having a manual to figure out funcions but once I got the hang of it and I started to learn all the funcions it was as great as I hoped it would be and more
Summary: I went from a Konica Minolta Z3 to the P80, then the P100, and this is my second P500. My brother won't let go of his P100, and neither of us is interested in the newest models. GPS data? Who wants this government to know where and when you take your pictures? OK, GPS data is cool, great for cops and real estate agents, but I usually know where I am. I love the zoom and the wide angle.
Great Performer Initially but died after 1.5 years

Summary: LOVED this camera for the first year and half that I had it. Took lots of amazing photos with it. One day while on vacation photographing a flower it just died. At first I thought maybe it was the battery although I suspected that wasn't the case since the lense wouldn't even retract. Usually when a battery dies the lense will retract first. I called Nikon support a few times and they were NOT helpful at all. They were telling me it had to be the battery..
Summary: I know this is a good camera, so I'm sure the problems i experience with it are user error or user misunderstanding... I needed to take quick pictures of whales in Hawaii, and there was too much lag time in between pressing the button. The girl sitting next to me was able to take multiple shots with one press of her button.
