Some nice features, but image quality is poor in several instances.

Summary: I use the camera for wildlife/scenic shots mostly, some indoor, but mostly outdoors. That was the reason I wanted this with the long zoom range. While it does do several things well(great macro, good zoom) I am very unhappy with the quality of the image for outdoor shots on a sunny day. Everything is washed out.
Color, WB accuracies are both very poor - ruined my vacation

Summary: This camera (Nikon P100) cannot handle the situations listed below, the automatic white balance and color accuracy of yellows and greens is very inaccurate. Please see the sunset photo i've uploaded. The camera will probably ruin your "golden hour" photos. It is ok in broad daylight, where the sky is accurate but has low saturation. 1. Sunsets: The sky end up with a pink cast, all the orange and red hues are irrecoverably lost (no RAW option). 2.
Summary: There is a lot to recommend this camera. It has a good feel, light, many features and is a great 'grab and go' camera when you don't want to take the DSLR to the beach. The most common complaint you will read on Amazon, Costco and the Nikon review sites, etc., is the camera unexpectedly freezing. Mine freezes with no predictable pattern of use. When it freezes it can be cleared, like a computer, by turning the power off and on.
Summary: Although easy to use and takes some pictures nicely, this is not the camera for you if you are looking for detailed telephoto or macro images. When taking these with this camera, the images are quite blurry and lose lots of quality and high-definition. The only good pictures I got out of it were silhouettes. I returned it and got the Canon 20D and hope that this works better for me.
Summary: the quality of the photos was very average. Zoom lens was good but there was too much shake and distortion with it. Indoor results were average. Returned the camera. Need to spend more and buy better technology.
Summary: Below are the reasons I returned the P100. I used the camera for a weekend at a soccer tournament, outdoor evening party, and a birthday party indoors. 1) the view finder is worthless; it is like looking through a 1950's TV. It cannot be used to track a running child on a soccer field. The quality of the image you see when looking through the viewfinder is also very, very poor.
Please don't buy this Camera if you think it will deliver SLR like quality

Summary: As I said if you are moving from a compact camera to something heavy like P100 expecting that it will deliver SLR like image quality you will be disappointed. I bought this camera thinking that it will deliver better quality close to SLR but I ws wrong. So returned this camera and bought Nikon D3100 which is not that bulky but delivers great image quality.
Has some good points, but I would have gone with something else

Excerpt: I bought the Nikon Coolpix P100 primarily to take pictures of my children. It has a good zoom feature. It is easy to use, but more difficult to use WELL. My kids can pick it up and take a picture with it, but they don't mind if their picture is blurry. Settings are fairly limited. Indoor pictures are often dark, even with the flash on. It does seem relatively sturdy. I do like the video recording feature.
