Overall good family camera with many functions and great zoom

Summary: I bought this camera because I wanted a portable DSLR with high zoom capability without a need to buy a separate lens (thanks to my wife who threw away my older Canon PowerShot I cherished without knowing the camera happened to be in a container she assumed to be garbage). This camera from Nikon brings about most of the features in my wish list and more.
Very Nice P&S Nikon Camera, Especially for the Money it Takes to Get It.

Summary: Does what it was intended to do as a point and shoot. It has the obvious limitations of little or not photographer controls, and no optical viewfinder, but getting a Nikon with those items costs a good deal more money. Getting a "Lens Error" for forgetting to remove the lens cap before turning it on is a might annoying. However, refer to the previous sentence. I find the optics to be extraordinary!.
Great backup and sometimes primary for wildlife shooting.

Summary: I bought this as a back up to a Sony RX10 for a long vacation of animal viewing. I added a charger and 4 rechargeables with the AAs as spares. 30x worked great on the long shots. I've always liked Nikon - F and D90 but previously used Canon S50 for convenience - this is my new convenient camera. It's light and relatively quick. My only knock is the lack of a view finder.
