Excerpt: This camera is pretty cheap, and it shows in the quality of photos. If you are very desperate and need a camera now, it might not be too bad of a choice. Cons: the processor in this camera is awful, and sometimes the battery cover needs to be popped open to reset the camera and make it work again. It is very slow to focus, and I have missed several good photo opportunities.
Excerpt: For a long time my husband wanted a camera with more megapixels, so when I fell with our old camera and scraped the side a little, it gave him a good excuse to think he needed a new one. My brother in law who is a graphic designer recommended that we get either a Cannon or Nikon. We had previously owned a Kodak. So we took his advice and purchased the Nikon Coolpix with high hopes and expectations, but were disappointed.
Excellent Camera Handicapped by Lousy Battery Drain
Bhavik H. Soni "Big B", Amazon
14 March 2010
Summary: I'd ordered this camera as a starter camera for my 10 year old son to take with him on holiday. After explaining how it works to him, I handed over the camera, rechargeable battery and charger to him. A week later, we complained that the battery was draining out too fast. I tried it ad found that the battery was indeed draining rapidly. I'm using two brand new Sanyo Ni-Mh 2100 batteries which drain out in the camera if left for 4 days!
Summary: I do not recommend this camera. I bought it and returned it right away. The "Easy Auto" mode is terrible. It is not easy, and it automatically suggests the wrong settings for the environment. The other individual modes are useless as well. Nearly every picture is blurry. The auto focus does not work properly, and the face finder is awful. The camera is also bigger than I think it needs to be, considering its dearth of features.
Summary: We took several pictures and they were incredibly blurry. So, after having three people check the settings to make sure we had everything properly set, we were unbelievably disappointed, and knew we did NOT want this camera! I should have went with my first instinct and spent the extra to get a Sony Cybershot, and that's exactly what I did the day after Christmas! I have an older model 3.2 megapixel Canon Powershot, and it takes better pictures than this Nikon.
Summary: We purchased this camera as a temporary while our Nikon D40 was being repaired. We are spoiled camera users, so we were not happy with menu options or delay between pictures. I will say the pictures once downloaded onto our computer were decent quality in comparison to what is displayed on the camera while taking the pictures.
Summary: I recently sent this camera to my husband in Iraq. I bought it based on other reviews I read on Amazon. My husband received the camera and was disappointed in it. He said the zoom was "Terrible" and unless your hand is completely still, the pictures turn out blurry.
Excerpt: I have been a nikon camera fan since digital cameras came out I have owned 3 nikons and I hate this one. this camera and it does not take good close up pictures. the pictures all have a slight reddish tint to them and adjusting setting seems to do nothing.
