Summary: All 5 members of my immediately family received this camera for Christmas a few years back. My father purchased them and each one ended up having a "lens error." These cameras are the worst! They all broke within a year. My sister;s 8 year old Canon brand camera is still working till this day.
Pros: Bought one for my son, screen broke, assumed it was his fault (despite denials of dropping, etc). He bought another on eBay, lasted 2 days before the same problem. Google "nikon l11 screen broke" before considering this camera... common problem.
Cons: Please see above... do not purchase this camera, just burn the money
Summary: do not buy this camera! this is my first Nikon, and will most definitely be my LAST. it takes about 10 seconds to even take the damn picture!! that may not seem like much, but when youre at a convention trying to take pictures of people walking, or even just celebs sitting down and slightly moving...you get a ruined, blurry picture. this camera is perfect if you are taking pictures of a rock. but anything that moves, worthless.
"Very sad about this camera-after < 1 year, doesn't work"
17 September 2008
Pros: Liked it very well at first. Was compact, relatively easy to use
Cons: But what good is a nice camera if it doesn't work? Seems Nikon is aware of problem of lens getting stuck, but will charge customers to repair, even if it is under a year. Nikon reps were AT the base exchange, but wouldn't replace camera. Boo hiss.
Summary: I decided to buy this camera for my daughter because of the reasonable price. I thought that we would be luckier than the people who ran into the "Lens error", shutter malfunction, Broken LCD... problems, but it turns out that this camera is very fragile and I made a terrible decision (for buying it and also for buying the extended warranty).
I bought it new in Feb this year. In May, the shutter did not function (close half way, and did not open).
Summary: This was a successor to our broken CoolPix L4 which only lasted 8 months; I don't know why I thought this one would last longer. Guess I was a sucker once again. With the L11, I forbade every family member under 18 from even touching it because the last one proved so poorly-built. And it still died - also of a cracked LCD screen - after less than six months.
