Excerpt: I bought this camera on sale and even at slightly over $200 US I feel like I didn't get much. After many years its the first camera I have that fits in my pocket. The image quality is acceptable but not spectacular. Its quite good at outdoor shots. However when shooting indoors with the flash it is really not acceptable at all. In these conditions the shutter speeds drops to an unacceptable level resulting in many blown and blurry shots.
Summary: Camera worked amazing in Sydney as long as it is not in water, but as soon as we got to Fiji and did some scuba diving under 10 meters, the screen turned BLACK. Very upset considering that my purchase was a Nikon factory direct refurbished camera. I purchased it for the waterproof feature but it was a waste of money. I could have purchased a regular camera to received what I got. Camera turns on but doesn't do anything.
Excerpt: Very happy with the picture quality of this camera both outdoors and underwater. Used and abused this camera in some wonderful outdoor environments where you wouldn't want to take a non waterproof camera. Captured some memorable underwater photo's of the family swimming with fur seals in Jurien Bay, canyoning at Karijini National Park, white water tubing on the Collie River, snorkelling on the Ningaloo reef, mud crabbing, kayaking and then me not being careful enough...
Summary: This is a great "life-proof" camera. Have used it in the pool, lake and ocean. dropped it banged it up. does not dent or scratch easily. Takes outstanding pictures. Very easy interface and simplistic menus. If you are looking for a camera that has "beauty fix" and other add ins to make your pictures pretty, this is not your camera. If you are looking for a no shit camera that can take some punishment and provide beautiful pictures, this is it.
Summary: we live on a small island south of the Bahamas, and I write a photo-heavy blog about 2 Gringos living on a small island.in the Caribbean. I carry a point and shoot camera in the pocket of my cargo shorts every day. In 9 years here, I have averaged a camera a year. I have been through most major waterproof cameras, and since we spend a lot of time on and in the water, ruggedness is critical.
Summary: My Nikon camera is awesome. I used it for my honeymoon pictures and it was inside the water almost half day during 15 days. It continues working exactly as the first day. I dropped since 3 feet and nothing bad happened. I like Nikon!
Water proof, freeze proof, shockproof but not scratch proof

Summary: I bought this camera about 2 years ago, I loved it and still love it, I take it to every vacation trip I do that I know there will be water involved. I have scuba dived with it 35 to 40 ft and works perfectly. I accidentally dropped it from 2 feet into rocks. It just scratched a little bit the metal paint but, it still works really well and battery will last a full day of use.
Summary: I like to be able to take a camera to the beach for snorkeling. Had a Nikon S7c and was able to get a waterproof case to go with it. But it made the contraption bulky and somewhat hard to use. The AW100 is more compact, easier to use and waterproof, cold proof, drop resistant, etc.. There are other cameras that have those features. But the clincher for me was the filter adaptor accessory.
Summary: I was nervous about this camera based on a few previous reviews regarding taking it into the water and then it ceasing to work. i took my new underwater camera to the waterpark and had it completely submerged in the pool. The pictures came out clear and it never stopped working. The pics under and above water were very clear and i have no complaints.
Summary: I got this one to keep in the car and for trips when we take photos of waterfalls or in the rain or snow or near a lake or in a boat. Waterproofness was what I was lacking in my large, heavy Canon SLRs with interchangeable lenses. This one's lens is built-in, so I don't worry about water or dust getting inside while I'm using it.
