Demand exceeded supply, even though it cost over $2000. These days its 7mp successor, the 8700, can be bought for $1000. Read more

Based on our initial review of a prototype sample of the Coolpix 8800, we concluded that it was one of the best prosumer cameras Nikon has created to date. Now having had the opportunity to fully test a production-level sample of the 8800, that conclusion still largely holds, although we did find the usual minor limitations to be expected in any camera. In working with it, we found the Coolpix 8800 to be a very appealing camera to use. Read more

This camera has a built in zoom lens. If the lens breaks, you don't have a camera anymore. My lens is failing to zoom and now I have to buy a new camera although the rest of the camera works fine. It's money down the drain. Before the zoom malfunction, the camera took great pictures on a perfect day, but night time, indoor, and action pictures were almost always blurry even if you put it on the night time, indoor, or action settings.
