"Trouble on two 5700's"

CNET
27 November 2004
  • Pros: I really like all the features and when the camera works it is great.
  • Cons: The first camera I purchased did not work at all. It was returned. The second one worked great for about a year and then the telephoto lens began to malfunction making it either very difficult or impossible to zoom and focus.

"Lens Error!!!"

CNET
19 November 2004
  • Pros: this camera does take great shots in good light
  • Cons: but if the light is not bight it has very hard time focusing. The worst part is the Lens Error! It seems that so many have the same problem. The lens gears in the camera are very poor quality thus after about a year of very caring use the camera died wi

"Too many disapointments not enough speed"

CNET
12 July 2004
  • Pros: Great macros, super color
  • Cons: Flash was defective out of the box. Slow recovery speed, poor control placement make this camera great last year, but not a contender this year. Too much money for this unit when pruchased.

"Thank god for the Minolta A1"

CNET
28 December 2003
  • Pros: When you can focus great color and sharp pictures.
  • Cons: Will not focus in low light, hot flash over exposed every picture I took with it. Menu buttons are the worst. I'm very dissapointed with Nikon as this was the first I've owned and know people that swear by Nikon. Went with the Minolta A1 wow what a differ

"If you want to take action shots DON'T BUY THIS camer"

CNET
27 December 2003
  • Pros: Great quality photos if you don't mind waiting for the camer to respond.
  • Cons: The delay in taking a photo has convinced me to sell this camera and buy a digital SLR. Camera good for the beginner but not for someone who demands high performance

"Disappointed Nikon Loyalist"

CNET
7 November 2003
  • Pros: Excited when I got the 5700 as a gift in late May. My first digital camera stepping up(?) from Nikon F5, N90, FM, Canon A-1 SLR's. Blown away by features galore but soon found out that the negative rap here on CNET and DPReview is true. Low light focusi

This camera will drive you insane!

Bill, Amazon
14 September 2003
  • Summary: I read the user warnings: impossible low light autofocus, poor manual focus with no distance indicator, battery eater, buttons on the side can't be found when you need them but always hit by accident, no filter threads. I thought, "It's a Nikon. Must be operator problems." I was wrong. This camera has a good flash and works well with Nikon external flash units, but there's a catch. The camera will not focus under conditions when you normally need a flash!
