"Flash too bright"

asianhoney, CNET
20 March 2005
  • Pros: great super macro mode, widest shutter speed range 8s-1/4000s, very fast at taking repetitive shots, great manual focus!
  • Cons: viewfinder cracked unexpectedly after 1 month, limited playback functions, flash too bright, not enough zoom, small LCD

"Great camera once you learn how to use it."

CNET
12 January 2005
  • Pros: Clear, vibrant, lively pics outdoors. Lots of features that you choose what you need/want. It took a little time but this camera rocks. At first, I couldn't stand this thing as it took lousy indoor pics. The auto mode preprogrammed modes are not that
  • Cons: Indoor pics in auto mode are near worthless. Play w/ the shutter speed and iso to get good results. AF in low light isn't very good but it's like that w/ most dc's. Usually it's a contrast issue. Although low light af isn't that great, it's not as bad

Nikon Coolpix 5400 in the field - durable, intuitive, ergonomic.

jvandegr, epinions.com

  • Summary: Recommended for its good feature set, durability, and reasonably good image quality. Advanced amateurs will probably also find everything they're looking for here.
  • Pros: Good image quality for a digital camera, durable, intuitive, reasonably fast zoom.
  • Cons: Shutter lag, focusing could be faster, poor low light focusing, image quality could be better.

"No regrets..."

CNET
20 July 2004
  • Pros: The camera has lots of modes although i don't use half of them. There are way more than you will ever use...some are rather ridiculous...(a mode for museum photography?!?!) I really really like the fact that this camera is capable to recording time laps
  • Cons: I have a few complaints about the camera, but to me they are not very important, but i suppose for other it may be a concern. I really don't like the output to TV. I don't know if i am missing something, but the pictures are always darker...much darke

"Still a loyal Nikon owner!"

CNET
15 May 2004
  • Pros: - Solid construction - Superior optics (ED glass). - Amazing Macro This is my first decent digital camera that I've purchased. Let me first say that I am a pro and the last SLR I owned was a Nikon F4, I've also used the D100. This camera, is amazing for
  • Cons: No one seems to mention this, but the viewfinder is way off from the image. I use the LCD to compose most of my images, especially macro. The person who said this is not a good camera for macro-photography could not have been more wrong. I've done some se

"Great investment in my childrens memories."

CNET
28 April 2004
  • Pros: Love the clarity the digital zoom gives plus all the presets available for on the go kids that don't require me to "play" with the camera.
  • Cons: Wish I could use it as a web cam as well. It makes perfect sense to have that feature...(Nikon let this one slip through the cracks.)

"great all round package"

CNET
21 April 2004
  • Pros: Simple to use when you want to keep it simple. Lot's of features and different ways of doing things when you want options. Not too big. Love the flip out LCD and the over all solid feel. I've used this camera in all sorts of settings (day/night, museum/sp
  • Cons: Ya gotta make your choices. I would have liked a higher optical zoom, but choose the 5400 'cuz it's not too big. Battery life with the rechargable is short, but with a non-rechar. lithium it's fine (use the recharg, keep the lithium nearby).
