Nikon Coolpix 5400

PC Magazine
30 June 2005
  • Excerpt: Smaller and lighter than the Canon PowerShot G5 and Olympus C-5060 Wide Zoom, the Nikon Coolpix 5400 packs lots of power and takes good pictures. But it's missing certain features, and performance is somewhat sluggish. The Coolpix 5400 is a brilliantly constructed camera with an articulated LCD, a hot shoe, and a handgrip.

DP Review

  • Conclusion: Here's my rating of the Nikon Coolpix 5400: (5 megapixel prosumer) The Coolpix 5400 is a worthy successor to the 5000. It does away with many of the image quality complaints aimed at that camera, maintains the 28 mm wide angle zoom and adds a little more telephoto with the four times optical zoom lens.
  • Pros: Average resolution for a compact five megapixel, good color response, Wide angle (28 mm equiv.) compact four times zoom lens, Virtually noise free ISO 50 setting, noise kept under control at higher ISO, Excellent Nikon Matrix metering, Good Image processing parameter control, Fine tunable white balance, Re-programmable FUNC button, Re-programmable 'My Menu' (initial record menu), Very good macro performance, Flip-out and twist LCD monitor, Good range of add-on accesso...
  • Cons: Some lens distortion, although expected considering zoom range, Corners of the image can occasionally appear soft, Average auto focus speed, Weird performance issues (shutter beep, record review off), Poor buffering, locks camera towards end of write process, Slow Compact Flash write speed / processing, Very long write times for 'Continuous Low' bursts, No AF assist lamp, poor low light AF, Loss of record / play switch, no quick play mode, Strap eyelet made hand grip ...

  • Conclusion: Nikon has delivered an excellent camera, this Coolpix 5400. The images are fresh and colourful. There are lots of settings for those who want to creatively take pictures and at the same time Nikon has broadened the possibility of automatic settings. The built-in Scene mode offers the possibility to the amateur photographer, who hasn’t dug into the matter of digital imaging, to take photos the way he or she wishes.

25 June 2003
  • Excerpt: The Coolpix 5400 ($799) is Nikon's follow up to their Coolpix 5000 camera. As you may remember, I was not a huge fan of that particular model. The biggest change between the 5000 and the 5400 is the brand new 4X Nikkor zoom lens, which offers a lot more telephoto power compared to the old 3X lens.
  • Pros: Excellent photo quality, Amazing expandability in terms of lenses, flashes, Lens is wider than most, CompactFlash Type II slot, Tons of manual controls, Rotating LCD display, Interesting timed bulb mode lets you keep shutter open for up to 10 mins, without keeping your finger on the button, Awesome macro mode, Low redeye
  • Cons: Bizarre shutter lag & buffering issues (firmware update needed?), Clunky, sluggish interface, No AF illuminator, poor low light focusing, Does not fully support Nikon Speedlites, Small LCD, No RAW mode yet (most of competition has it), Flimsy plastic door over CF slot, No live histogram in record mode

Nikon Coolpix 5400

PC Authority
14 November 2004
  • Summary: The Nikon Coolpix 5400 is the descendent of the Coolpix 5000. In the revamp, it has gained a new 1/1.8in CCD and 4x optical zoom but also loses a couple of useful features, like the LCD status panel and RAW file mode. True, there is a TIFF option, but this is a backwards move in our view.

Kipróbáltuk: Nikon Coolpix 5400

Pixinfo
18 April 2006
  • Summary: Az 5 Mpixeles Coolpix 5400 egyik kiemelkedő tulajdonsága, hogy kisfilmes rendszerre vetítve 28 mm-től állítható be a fókusztávolsága. Elődjéhez képest sok tulajdonságában javult, így biztosan sikeres utóda lesz a Coolpix 5000-nek.

Nikon Coolpix 5400

Absolut Photo
21 January 2006

nikkei BPnet
1 July 2005
