Excerpt: If you need to take photos closeup, then this is not the camera for you. The photos blur when close up so it's useless for things like Ebay. Also, the shutter speed is terrible so if you're trying to pose your kids, animals, friends, forget it. You're gonna miss a great pic with this camera waiting the 7 sec. it takes to process one pic and get ready to take another.
Excerpt: I have had this camera for two and a half years. My husband and I have not been happy with it since its purchase. Big mistake! We cannot believe it does not have sound for its videos (however, the newer versions do). Our shutter is stuck open; other friends' coolpix cameras have shared the same problem, but there is nothing to fix it. You have to learn how to use the settings properly or your pics won't take well.
Don't buy, breaks easily and poor customer service.

Excerpt: The batteries died while taking a picture. This made the lens not retract even when new batteries were put in. Tech support said "Well, send it in and if you didn't cause the problem we won't bill you." This was very rude. We did fix the camera, but for the same money you can get a Cannon.
Summary: I had the Nikon Coolpix 3100 and was very happy with it until I lost it. Having had 2 other Nikon cameras I loved, I didn't even think to check the reviews on this one before I bought it. The pictures are fine, the resolution is fine, it's easy to use, and easy to carry. The problem is the recycle time between photos. It takes so long to reset that the screen goes dark as if to turn off. When taking pictures of restless children, it's impossible to do it quickly.
Summary: This would be a great camera if you have time to wait between shots. I had a Sony Cybershot (DSC-P71) that is getting old (3-4 years) and dosn't take the quality pictures it used to. We own several Nikons that we are very happy with including a D-70 and a Coolpix 8700 so I wanted to try a Nikon "pocket" camera to replace my Sony. I was very dissapointed in the speed of the pictures.
Summary: First off, I'm not sure whther it was this model, or the 4 MP one, but the camera overall was frustrating. I don't have this camera (thank god), but my friend does and she has me take pics with it all the time. Sure, the camera FUNCTIONS. It takes the pictures and all. But I must say, the shutter speed is exceptionally slow and almost every picture i take the camera suggests that the picture is blurred, and indeed it is. Blurred pictures means less quality.
