Compact & Sharp

  • Excerpt: This is my "everyday carrying around with me" camera. The great thing about this camera is how compact it is & it produces decent photos : DAlso, it is very easy to use in automatic setting. Just to extend the lens and shoot. It produces decent photos. Very easy!BUT this camera is not just that, if you want to change some settings, you can! You have to go down in the menu but you can get the settings you want. Changing the shooting mode, etc.
  • Pros: Compact, Easy To Use, Good Image Quality
  • Cons: No Focus Peaking, Noisy At High ISO, No Usb Charge, Poor In Low Light

  • Excerpt: The Nikon 1 S1 is a bit smaller and lighter than the J1 and the 11-27.5mm kit lens is very sharp even to the edges. The camera allows me to take clear photos indoors under available light unlike my compact camera does. I like the extra features for stills and video including adjustable audio recording levels. Autofocus is fast and spot on even with the 18/1.8 lens wide open.

  • Excerpt: Why this model?Firstly, I like Nikon. It may be funny, but as to me, Nikon brand is like Stradivari brand for violins. I have several generation Nikon cameras from FE10 to D5300. So, it is a good extension of Nikon cameras row I own of. And this camera was bought as a gift for my wife. Secondly, It looks amazing and is equipped with several surprising features. The first of them is manner to turn on the camera by pushing the knob and simultaneous rotating the lens.
  • Pros: Easy To Use, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality
  • Cons: No Viewfinder

A Very Versatile Camera

Dean the Artist, B&H Photo

  • Excerpt: I am not a photographer but I was an art major in college so I am more interested and discriminating than point-and-shoot owners, so I wanted a camera that was easy to use when traveling but could also perform as an honest-to-God real camera when I feel creative. The Nikon 1 S1 with the Nikkor lens fits ALL I wanted from a fine camera that could also be put on full Auto when I didn't want to think too much. The photos are incredibly good.
  • Pros: Easy To Use, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, High ISO Performance, Large Clear LCD, Quiet

  • Excerpt: For the price, the camera produced great photos in a wide range of applications. Great flexibility particularly at night with low light levels. Only draw back is the case. Very awkward.
  • Pros: Good Image Quality

Taking photos of Toddlers

Brittany, B&H Photo
16 October 2014
  • Excerpt: I bought this camera because the Point & Shoot one that I had would blur when my toddler moved. I didn't want the bulkiness of a DSLR (or the expense) and this seemed like a great "in-between" option. I've only used it a few times, but so far it works great! We've used it while he's jumping and sliding without having blurred photos!
  • Pros: Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality

Great price for beginners

  • Excerpt: I bought this camera to learn about photography. I have very little knowledge in the area and its wide range of manual controls are very good for getting the hang of it. Also the lenses can be switched for any other Nikkor lenses, so if you intend in going deep, it's not like you'll lose the material you bought. It's a very good price for a great camera. I would recommend buying a tripod too, to use for experimenting with night shots.
  • Pros: Easy To Use, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Good Image Quality, High ISO Performance, Large Clear LCD, Lenses Can Be Changed
  • Cons: Noisy At High ISO, Short Battery Life
