Excerpt: I carry this camera (with a khaki silicon cover) everywhere and am very pleased so far with the performance and toughness. It feels really solid and well built. I shoot mainly aperture priority, but have tried a few of the auto and other settings with good results. While I have washed it a few times with no problems, it has not been underwater yet. From my experience with other underwater cameras the seals seem as good or better so I don't anticipate any problems...
Summary: Let's be clear. I have been a fan of Nikon Cameras since my darkroom days. I have used Nikon Cameras happily for decades. They have never failed me… Until this weekend when I took the Nikon 1 AW1 out to catch the kids in the surf and the camera just stopped. She wouldn’t turn on. She just died… And let’s be clear, I know how to clean a camera. I have Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS5D that has worked beautifully for years.
Excerpt: This is a second camera (next to a D300) for me, for something light weight but capable for hiking / kayaking / bad weather - when you don't want to worry about keeping a camera dry. <br />Not having an optical viewfinder is something that is taking me a while to adapt to, but the LCD is quite good even in bright light, once you tweak the settings.
Pros: Easy to Use, Large Clear LCD, Small / Compact
High Quality, Easy to Use, Extremely Detailed Photos from a waterproof camera

Summary: I read all the very informative reviews for this camera before dropping what to me was a ton of cash on a luxury item. Many of the other reviews were spot on in their criticisms but if you read between the lines these criticisms become pluses. I have cameras that will take photos in bad weather and under water but they are a pain to use and the photos are not good. I also have used top of the line cameras that will take spectacular photos.
Excerpt: Works great as a travel camera. I like using the 10mm 2.8 lens. I thought waterproofing the camera would take extra steps, but you just put on the lens. The settings are easy to use and intuitive. This camera shoots Raw, so the image quality is pretty good in low light.
Pros: Easy to Use, Fast Shutter Speed, Good in Low Light, Large Clear LCD, Small / Compact
Summary: The Nikon AW1 is a breakthrough camera that takes very nice (almost DSLR quality) photos. However, I discovered a significant flaw when I used it to shoot a local parade. The ambient air temperature was 75 F, but the camera may have been a bit hotter as I was sitting in the sun. However, it was only warm to touch. What was the big problem? It would give a brief message telling me that the internal temperature was too high and then shut off.
Summary: Long time waterproof point and shoot along with GoPro user. I've spent thousands over the years on entry level waterproof cameras and this has the most range of any. Easy to use, functions are easy to access, and options are what I needed. Pictures are 100xs better than any other waterproof cam I've used.
