Summary: I was super psyched to get a waterproof camera with a larger sensor than any of the other ones out there, but I've been pretty disappointed. I read some reviews that described issues with leaking, so I was crazy careful about applying the Nikon sealant to the seals, making sure I cleaned and checked every seal before use, and following the directions to the T. Unfortunately the battery compartment leaked on my very first use.
Summary: The data port door leaked the first time I used it. As specified in manual all testing were done prior to its first use. However tests completed in a sink vs your device in the ocean is a very different test. No debris was on the seal, and the doors all closed and securely locked. After a long day shooting a marketing assignment I returned to the safe and controlled environment of my hotel to open, inspect, clean, and upload photos from the camera.
Not Suitable for SCUBA diving (as advertised). Probably ok for splashing.

Summary: Do Not purchase this for SCUBA Diving (regardless of advertised uses). I have had this camera since October 2013. I purchased it because we only SCUBA dive about once a year, but I wanted to be able to take pictures while diving. I thought this was the perfect fit since my DSLR is heavy and cumbersome. This camera easily fits in my purse for trips to the park, zoo, aquarium etc etc etc and for diving.
Summary: The Nikon AW1 is not the best camera around, but it is, hands down, the best underwater camera. Short of putting a DSLR in a waterproof enclosure, you will not get a better waterproof camera. Compared to the competition, the AW1 is bulker and more expensive. Since only two waterproof lenses are available, the ability to change lenses is of dubious value (though, if you’re also using it on dry land, you can use all the Nikon 1 lenses with it, but it won’t be waterproof...
Summary: Used this camera on a recent trip for snorkeling and scuba diving. Pictures were awesome. On the plus side: Good controls, fast startup, good battery life. ON the down side: tough to see the screen under water. Overall, aw1 is a very unique and very capable camera. I would recommend it.
Summary: I bought one this summer. I just have used it for a trip in the Yucatan peninsula in Nov / Dec 2014. I was really happy with the photo quality, even if the LCD sometimes is hard to see in full sun. I took great photos in the ocean and in sink holes. It also focuses really fast, great for some images of kite surfers. BUT I would often find droplets of water in the battery compartment even if i was careful at making sure there was no debris on the seal.
