Summary: So far, so good. Appears to be as advertized. Have used it in rainy weather without any problems, but have not taken it underwater so cannot speak to that very critical issue. Look forward to beach walking with it and will see how it does with salt spray. Wish it had image stabilization but I knew when I bought it that it didn't so that's my problem.
Excerpt: I purchased this camera before our labor day vacation and it was the best decision I could have made. We planned a 7-day Caribbean vacation I couldn't decide which camera to take. I own a J3 but I was afraid it may get water damage. I looked at the alternatives but the AW1 seemed the most appealing and I was familiar with it's AF system and FPS which I liked.
Summary: I got this camera back in March and used it 20 days of snorkeling and just used it again 23 days in July and August. No problems at all with any leaking. I dive down to 30 feet with it as well. The pictures I took were fabulous..a lot of complements. Very happy with this purchase, in fact my husband wants to trade his underwater camera in for the same thing. It is a great size where it fits comfortable in my hands and not too big.
Summary: You can't do any worse than buying a waterproof camera that is, in fact, not waterproof. Not only did the body fail, but so did the lens. We used the camera twice in very shallow water with no issues, but had water in the camera and lens upon the third use. As another reviewer noted, Nikon warranty WILL NOT stand by this camera and you will be stuck with a $1,000.00 paperweight.
Excerpt: I have an AW-100, but wanted to take better photos out on the water. The Nikon 1 AW1 is just what I have been waiting for... A waterproof camera with high quality features and interchangeable lens.I know have more options to shoot in wider range of light conditions and really work on better photographs.
Pros: Easy to Use, Good in Low Light, Great Resolution, Small / Compact
