Summary: A few years ago I stopped carrying my big camera due to shoulder and neck issues. I saved up enough money to get this little camera and have been very happy with it. A point and shoot will never replace a DSLR but this comes close. I have been able to get some great shots from this camera. The only problem I have with this is the flash. Indoors the flash is just ok. Overall this is a great camera.
Summary: This is the perfect pocket camera. Leica produces the finest cameras in the world. Their cameras easily beat my Nikons and my old Pentax. There is only a Leica. If you are serious about cameras then buy a serious camera.
Thanks to other reviewers I made the right choice!

Summary: Omg...this thing is fantastic....my husband did a lot of research over a year, and bought a Sony NEX6.... He was over the moon about it..... And then I got this baby.....imagine the look on his face when he realized his ditz of a wife inadvertently bought a better camera than his...har har har.... But enough with the back biting..... The most surprising aspect to me is that the image represented in the viewfinder is what you get as a picture!..
Summary: I have two other Leica's and wasn't sure I needed another one -- but when I saw the price on this package, I took the plunge. I am just in awe of the V-Lux 40's 480 zoom feature. I took this as my only camera on a recent trip to FL and New Orleans and got some wonderful shots. So far I have zero complaints -- except this camera does so much (a GPS feature??!!) that I think I need classes to learn to use it to its fullest potential. I love it.
Summary: I bought this for my wife for christmas and she's been having a ball using it. It takes great photos and videos and the 3" screen is a nice size. It's difficult to see your subject when outdoors in the sunlight or a dark environment but what camera isn't when you don't have a view finder.
Summary: Bought this camera as a gift fir my wife. She loves to take pictues and all of the other ones we have used are too slow. She likes this camera because it is very fast and the picture quality is excellent. The heft of the unit is very nice and the case feel like jewelry. The only drawback is the closed thickess. It is just a little too thick to be placed in the chest pocket of a coat.
Summary: well after wading through many reviews of the compact digitals that are available i selected v-lux 40 as a replacement for my canon g7 that failed to power on after 7 years and many great photos.i wasn't particularily price sensitive as much as wanting the most compact camera available with features condusive to use as easily carried daily use/travel camera.
Summary: Just got my wife a v-lux 40 and I agree that it is a phenomenal piece of equipment, far and away the best point and shoot I have ever seen. It has feature not found on any other! BUT a point and shoot will never replace a dslr! Never! If you are a professional photographer you need the viewing feature of TTL. In my work I shoot Nikons. I wish I could afford the Leica S2 dslr, but at $23,000.00 for the body alone, it's not really feasible for me at this point.
Summary: I bought this to replace a small point n shoot that was disappointing in its limitations. This camera is very powerful in both its capacity for producing excellent images and providing the user with extraordinary control of all the functions needed to capture quality shots. Out performs every pocket camera I have seen. Before buying this camera, I did a lot of research on its Panosonic version.
