Summary: I have used many types of digital cameras. I bought this one for my trip to Africa. I have used it for three years. It zooms well but burns batteries too fast! Four batteries will be burned out in a 6-hour excursion even though I didn't leave it on all the time. Kodak is behind bit time in terms digital technologies!
Summary: The price was right for me and the quality of pictures may be good but I am disappointed about the battery life. Batteries seem to run down very quickly. Also I thought I could get lens adapters to zoom out further but have had no luck in finding anything for this.
Summary: I got this camera a few moths ago and loved it. Then BAM it takes like 20 pictures to one lithium battery. That's freaking expensive. I sent it in for repair under warranty (which was incredibly inconveinant, since it left me without a camera with my 6 month old). They sent it back saying that it's "repaired" and now it takes a whopping 40 pictures per battery (to top it off the guy at the repair number was a jerk).
Summary: My first digital was a Kodak 7560 with a 10x optical zoom. What a camera! Easy to operate, took great pictures and enabled me to get great close ups of wildlife. Wife dropped it and broke it beyond repair. We wanted to stay with Kodak technology because of familiarity and satisfaction. We also had a printer dock that also served as a battery charger. The 7560 had its own recargeable battery. We bought the Z812 IS on line. That was our first mistake.
Summary: There are a number of problems with this camera that aren't mentioned in some of the reviews. Problem #1: Shutter delay - there is about a one second delay from when you press the button until the picture is taken. It is very disappointing to see a picture of the second after the candles have been blown out :( Problem #2: Cannot take action photos. Period. This is the worst camera I have ever had in terms of action photos.
Summary: I was choosing between 3 super zoom cameras. Canon PowerShot S5 IS Olympus SP-550 UZ Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18 I had not even considered the Kodak, mainly because I did not know anything about them. Then I met a fellow dad at a my son's soccer game, with the Kodak Z812. He show me some shots he had taken during the game, and some scenery shots. Wow! The camera was well layed out as far as controls, the zoom was powerful (12X), and it shot fast, no lag.
Conclusion: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Pros: Bright LCD, Comfortable Controls, Small Lag Time
Cons: Cannot turn off sound rec, Exposed LCD, Lens adapter makes shadow, No AC adapter supplied, No charger supplied, No external flash or shoe, No pause in video record, No rechargable battery, Shadow with lens adapter, Terrible sound recording
