Summary: I like the camera and will update later is problems sort out, but the camera's lens stopped working literally 3 hours into using the camera this has detracted from my enthusiasm for Fujifilm. I read up some on the internet and found that at least the S4xxx series cameras seem to have this issue in common. The cameras will lock up and indicate the lens cap is still on, there is no real solution other than to return the item and either try again or get your money back.
Summary: This is my second Fuji Finepix S class camera. The first one lasted 9 years of hard use and thousands of pix. This new one has the same look and feel plus the advances of todays electronics and optics. The pix are super-sharp, and the features are great. My wife will use the SR Auto setting for point and shoot convenience, while I prefer the Manual mode for creativity and control.
Summary: While I am no means an avid photographer, I do take numerous photos in varying light conditions at many different distances. From mere inches to far off shots, this camera has some great quality and focus. The only issue I have had is while using the zoom at near max, the camera does not like to auto-focus. I have had to zoom back out some to let it re-focus and them zoom back in to sort of kick it back into gear.
Summary: I bought this so that I could bring it to Rome with me while I studied abroad. I've been testing it and I love it! Easy to point-and-shoot, or switch to more manual settings. Great quality, and easy to download pictures onto the computer.
Summary: I have been using a Fujifilm Finepix A-900 for years and I am used to that size and weight so to me the S-4800 is a bit cumbersome. I recently bought it for myself because of the 30X. I wanted to take some macro shots of jewelry for insurance purposes. I found the manual easy to read and understand (it comes in 3 manuals in 3 different languages)and the camera easy to set up and use.
Summary: This is my second Fuji camera. I still have the original which works but wanted to upgrade from 4 megapixel to the 16, that tells you how old it is. For a first time shooter it comes out of the box ready to point and shoot and has enough toys "aperture, shutter speed etc." to play with for those more advanced. The software that downloads your pics from the camera is very easy to use and installed with no issues.
Pros: Recently bought this camera for my own needs. Especially with the budget. Amazing Quality and HD everything. Beautifully design to fit in the hand.
Cons: Not lot of options for the coloring in the pictures setting. Does not have sepia, and such. Battery is good for a couple of days. Sould have rechargeable batteries. Not bad with the night pictures, better than cheaper ones.
