takes good underwater photos (until it died) but that's it

Summary: I bought this camera almost a year ago for kayaking and snorkeling trips. It takes nice underwater pictures and pretty good above water pictures when you are in the water. That's about it though, normal pictures often come out faded or hazy looking. This is especially true in certain lighting conditions such as indoor pictures with light coming through a window, for example.
Fuji XP 10 is OK for the money and taking simple pictures

Summary: See my extensive comments under the 5 star gadgester review about this product. i just came back from 10 days in hawaii. my canon LCD screen went south and i picked this camera primarily for using underwater as an interim camera. my trip was primarily for marlin fishing then doing some snorkling and visiting volcano national park. some of the reviews said the camera leaked under water.
Summary: This was a great little cameras well I thought it was until on the 3rd or 4th day of our vacation the flash just stop working. Tried playing with it but could not get it to work. Needless to say I am returning this camera. Had to go out and purchase another camera while on vacation not happy about that Took great pictures and videos. Sometimes it was difficult to see the screen but that happens with all cameras.
Excerpt: I did not have a "rugged" water-resistant camera to take with me on vacation, so purchased this for that specific task. Camera is well made, with a metal body and simple controls. I normally use Canon compacts, and next to them, the picture quality of the Fuji is very poor, especially in low light conditions. Results are acceptable in well-lit situations, which is where I will be using this camera mostly, so this was a reasonable purchase for me.
Excerpt: Easy to use underwater. Fun little camera. Good "knocking around" unit, but image quality holds it back from serious image making. Linking several video clips into one long clip is a good feature. Zooms while capturing video, but has difficulty focusing while zooming. Problems: easy to get fingerprints on lens. Very average image quality. Not fragile, but "shockproof" may be a bit of a stretch.
Summary: Just took the new camera on a white water rafting trip down the Grand Canyon. Clearly the camera met the specs for water tightness and shock ability as this type of trip had both. Pictures were of low quality, with little ability to handle a mix of shadows and light. Shutter is slow and unresponsive to the moment. In bright sunshine, or very low evening light, the lack of a view finder rendered most pictures a pure guess.
Summary: Takes excellent photos on land and underwater. HD video was a key feature that attracted me to this product. Unfortunately, the video quality overall leaves a lot to be desired: - HD 1280x720 is encoded as 30fps MJPEG AVI (outdated format). HD video looks pretty good, but is not very smooth - it is jittery. Worst of all, the audio in the HD video contains very loud background noise -- a high-pitched sound combined with a strange low-end sound that resembles a heartbeat.
Excerpt: Bought this as an additional small camera that provided some water and environment resistance. The case is metal and seems durable. Fairly solid overall. Features are average for small cameras these days, but the menu display could be made better. The buttons on the back are very small making it difficult to cursor with the 4 way. Though it's fairly easy to use, the flash is underpowered for regular close shots, and the image quality varies.
