Fujifilm FinePix S5700 Review

What Digital Camera
2 August 2007
  • Summary: Innovative features mask flaws in the fundamental aspects of the S5700. It really is a shame, because the camera almost epitomizes the current needs of a particularly large market; that is, one that requires a good level of manual control, in a small 'bridge' body and for a reasonable price. Results can at times be quite pleasing, but are temperamental and inconsistent with Fujifilm's claims. An improved sensor?
  • Pros: Image stabilisation, useful features, weight and size.
  • Cons: Fringing, limited colour options, Raw mode curiously omitted from this upgrade.

  • Conclusion: The Fuji Finepix S5700 has two big plus points for anyone looking for a digital camera with a longer lens. The first is its low price tag and the second is ease of use. Picture quality is not perfect, but taking the price of the camera into account I cannot be too critical.
  • Pros: Design and style - ease of use for a camera with these features
  • Cons: Purple fringing - wide angle test photo

  • Summary: The FinePix S5700 is a decent but uninspiring advanced digital camera. While it will do most of what you want, it is let down by average image quality.
  • Pros: 10x optical zoom, speedy operation
  • Cons: Poor colour reproduction, high chromatic aberration, slow burst mode

  • Excerpt: The Fujifilm FinePix S5700 houses 7.1Mp that will be ideal for A4 prints. It comes with both a 2.5in LCD screen and a digital viewfinder, while the ISO range reaches ISO 1600 - handy for low-light conditions - and if you enjoy taking the occasional video, the S5700 is capable of a 640x480 resolution recording at 30 frames a second. The back of the camera is laid out neatly and although there's no protective screen, the viewing is crisp and clear.

Test: Fujifilm FinePix S5700 (Digitalkamera)

CHIP Online
8 May 2008
