Nice camera, lots of features for price, focusing in zoom in movie mode not great.
9 November 2014
Summary: Got the camera for a good price. This camera has a lot of features, HD video, big zoom. Originally got this for my daughter. The camera had a problem right from the start. The batteries would discharge when in the camera within 24 hours. Also problems developed with the flash. Returned the camera under warranty and got it repaired. Did not get good explanation what was replaced. Since repair, the camera has been working fine. Battery life good.
Summary: I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed that when you zoom while recording movies, that you can hear the zooming when you play it pack on the computer or tv? Just trying to figure out if this is just a defective one or if it is a fault of this model camera.
Good Camera/Sensor, but crippled firmware, try the F505 instead
29 December 2011
Summary: I have tried out both the F500 and F505, and the F505 currently costs much less on Amazon (~149usd for F505, vs. ~190usd for F500). That said, now to compare them. Both the F500 and F505 have the same excellent Fuji EXR CMOS sensor, but the F500 (the base model for USA) comes with "crippled" firmware; you lose RAW image capture capability, and the horizontal 360° panorama size is reduced from 1080 pixels high to only 720 pixels.
Summary: I will admit that I was not too happy with this camera at first. But after reading the manual and learning how to use it, it actually takes some really incredible pictures. So unless you are a little more experienced with these types of cameras, or unless you do your homework, you might not like this camera. Once you get past how to use it though it will take some amazing pictures, especially in low light. Now, for the video.
Summary: +’s = Good pictures, easy to use, good zoom wit good stabilisation & on average 4 day battery life if no video footage is used and you don’t scan pics until you get home and use your PC. -‘s = paint chips of the body very easily making camera look tatty quickly, (on my camera) USB slot stopped working after 8 months with 4 pics stuck on the internal memory that I can’t get off & LCD screen stopped working just after 1yr -2 weeks after the returns window closed- I must...
Summary: I bought this camera for a holiday this year, the camera is fantastic the lens is good and over all performance is just what I wanted. Minor problems or annoyances 1st the Flash that keeps popping up 2nd the scroll wheel is easy to catch when putting the camera away so if you dont check it every time then it wont be on the setting you wanted so you end up with failed shots.
Summary: Bought this camera at full price of over £200 and was impressed with the pics. However soon noticed that it kept totally freezing on me.Finally teLephoned Fuji and was told to book it in so they could access and repair it. Returned at own expense £5.90) and within a week it was returned to me stating that no problem could be found. Thought I must be using faulty card so bought an expensive fast one, but still found it to be freezing on me.
Summary: Nice little camera full of useful features like taking 180 degrees shot. Brilliant for landscape snaps and if you need a wide angled lens. Good quality pictures as well. Downside however is the annoying flash which pops up every time you switch the camera on - even if you don't need it. Worse of all fro me though is the camera broke down whilst on holiday and the lens barrel could not retract - will be going back to Amazon.
Summary: Like one of the other reviewers I have waited for a month to submit my review and after using it constantly I now felt the time was here to comment. I had tried all of the long travel zoom compacts which took over 6 weeks, I tried 2off Canon SX220HS,Nikon s9100,Samsung WB700,Lumix TZ 18 & 20,Sony HX7v & HX9v and Fuji F500 & F550 exr, eventually deciding on image quality of the F500, I didn't want the battery zapping GPS which some models have.
